“I am insulted by such accusations, Miss Winters.” He kissed her gently on the lips. “Although I didn’t hear any complaints. But I also like the word ours,” he said before the intercom buzzed.
“Saved by the bell, Mr Maybury or I may have violated you right here in our kitchen,” she said and was quite serious in her offer, threat.
Chapter 47
Tasha could barely believe the difference a day had made when she found herself surrounded by lights and the cacophony of voices and sounds around her. When she had woken the previous day she’d shared a flat with Lucy and was still relatively anonymous and now she had moved into a flat with Jim who’d furnished it completely in a day. He had obviously been very busy in L.A. before he left and online since his arrival and now she was standing with him on the red carpet at a blockbuster première with camera flashes all around and British TV and radio reporters who did recognise her in this environment calling to her.
The American correspondents tried to summon Jim over and were obviously interested in who the unknown lady on his arm was. One of them got his attention leaving Tasha talking to a male correspondent, Robbie Newman from a British breakfast TV show who had interviewed her many times before and she liked him; he was very blatantly gay, funny, genuine and friendly and always made her laugh.
“Hi, my love, nice to see you. How are you enjoying the red carpet?” he asked, landing a kiss on each of her cheeks.
“It’s good. Very odd seeing all of these famous people around, proper famous people.” She really was star-struck as she gestured towards the passing Hollywood stars.
“I know,” he said with a very camp tone and wiggle of his eyebrows that made Tasha laugh. “Have you spoken to any of them?” he asked.
“Gosh, no. They scare the life out of me. I just keep staring and as they have no idea who I am they just stare at me and alert their security,” she laughed.
“I think Christian Bale has taken out a restraining order against me and my microphone,” he joked.
“He could take out anything he wanted against me,” she said and they laughed together.
“You and me both, but you arrived wearing a very large smile and a rather gorgeous looking man yourself this evening. Would you care to share?” he asked, his eyes lighting up at the prospect of an exclusive story.
She laughed. “I do seem to have a permanent smile on my face at the moment and it may have something to do with my very gorgeous boyfriend, Robbie.”
“And does he have a name and work in the business?” he asked excitedly.
“Yes, and yes,” she answered wryly before adding, “Jim, but he works in The States.”
“Speaking of working, anything planned for you beyond the modelling for the High Street range we’ve heard about?”
“Yes, I have some dates to shoot some more of the High Street range and in a couple of months I will be starting work on a British legal drama, so I am very fortunate in work too,” she said as she was re-joined by Jim and moved along the carpet.
“You look amazing, Tasha,” he said for possibly the fiftieth time since he’d first seen her dressed at the hotel.
“Yeah, I think you may have mentioned it.” She smiled up at him.
“The Hollywood correspondent over there is desperate to speak to you,” he said and she was unsure whether he was seeking her permission to take her over.
“Have you spoken to them?”
“Yeah, but they were only interested in you, understandably so if you ask me,” he said with his arm wrapped around her waist.
“You want me to talk to them?”
“If you want to. You may need to court them to some extent, especially the lady in pink. She is very influential, but please think before you speak because she misses nothing,” he warned her.
“Okay,” she agreed as he led her towards them.
“Hi, Katy Myers.” The American lady in pink offered her hand to Tasha.
“Hello.” Tasha accepted Katy’s hand.
“Natasha?”
“Tasha, please. We’re all friends I’m sure.” Although she was sure of nothing.
“Oh my, you really are very, cute and you look absolutely amazing. Who are you dressed in tonight?” she asked.
