“You’re going to hurt my feelings,” I said, following her into the room.
The trolley was laden with pots and tubes for her to store samples. I perched on the edge of the bed, feet planted on the ground, and removed my shirt, knowing by the needles that she needed more blood.
“James, do you want to do the observations?” Scott asked, doing her best to avoid looking at me.
I made a mental note to buy Ignacio a drink because luck was on my side, as James reminded her he needed to leave for a dental appointment. Scott closed her eyes and nodded before James left the room, closing the door behind him, trapping us together in the space.
“I need to take your blood pressure and heart rate,” she explained.
She didn’t look at me as she attached the cuff to the top of my arm and a clip to my finger, setting the machine to start. Scott pulled out the chart and noted everything down before removing them from me.
“Everything in order?” I asked.
“You know it is,” she replied through her teeth.
I was a God. How could anything be less than perfect?
“I need some blood, hair samples, and a cheek swab,” Scott listed.
“My body is yours.”
Her cheeks coloured, and she turned away quickly, snapping on her gloves vigorously and preparing what she needed to draw blood.
“Your body is for science,” Scott corrected my sentence tersely.
But I heard the way her heart rate picked up, and it made my lips twitch into a smirk. I could still break her.
Erik wasn’t wrong. An attraction laid between us. Scott had become an itch that I wanted to scratch, and it was becoming harder to ignore. The kiss had tipped the scales. I still wanted to destroy her, but there was no reason I couldn’t enjoy the pleasure in all forms.
The more she resisted me, the harder I tried. I was used to getting what I wanted. Women threw themselves at me. So why did she fight so badly against it? How much ego could this mortal maintain? The simple act would satisfy me and ruin her for any other person for the rest of her days. She just needed to give in.
Scott collected the blood into tubes and plucked a few strands of dark hair from my head before storing them away. She pulled out swabs and turned back to me, hesitating. To collect a cheek swab would require a closer proximity.
“I promise I won’t bite,” I told her, and then raised an eyebrow. “Unless you like that sort of thing.”
Goading her always worked. Scott narrowed her eyes, and I opened my legs. She sighed before stepping in between them.
“Open your mouth,” she ordered.
“You really need to work on that terrible bedside manner.”
“Fuck you.”
I wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her in close, forcing a squeak out of her.
“Tell me where and when,” I said, desire darkening my eyes.
“Grayson, I’m trying to work,” she said, planting a hand on my chest and trying to keep the swab uncontaminated. Her body had tensed. “Let me go and open your damn mouth so I can get the sample.”
She swallowed hard and wriggled out of my grasp, taking a few steps back. Frowning, I pushed myself off the bed and stalked towards her. Why couldn’t I hook her in?
“Grayson.” Scott took a step back for every step I took towards her.
“Tell me no,” I said as she bumped into the worktop, and I trapped her there.
She didn’t say the word.
Beneath her golden-brown skin was a faint pink tinge. Her heart pumped rapidly, knocking clumsily against her chest. She’d deny it until she was blue in the face, but I knew Scott felt the rush when we kissed yesterday that had nothing to do with my powers.
