“Did I mention that I was an asshole?” Garrett asked, swallowing hard as he watched her make her way to the backdoor and-
“I figured that out six years ago when you told me to go to hell.”
CHAPTER 5
Slowly exhaling, Kristen said, “You may maul me now,” as she gestured for the dog that really needed a name to get on with it.
When he rolled over onto his side with a groan, Kristen shook her head in disgust, regretting her decision to pay him in advance with the rest of her sandwich. It had been a rookie mistake, Kristen thought, gesturing for him to get off the bed. When he ignored her, which he did every night, she stood there for another minute, debating trying to shove him off the bed. That was followed by a resigned sigh as she made her way around the bed only to go still when she heard it.
The familiar tapping on her bedroom window that used to make her heart skip a beat.
But now…
Now, it had her grumbling incoherently as she yanked the covers back, violently fluffed her pillow before she climbed into bed, determined to ignore the large bastard who was put on this earth to piss her off.
As far as she was concerned, they were done.
He’d made her life a living hell for the past six years, and now that he knew the truth, it was finally over. He could go back tobeing an asshole and hopefully move far away from her so that she could pretend that the last nine months never happened and go back to pretending that her life wasn’t falling apart.
She-
“Double chocolate milkshake with a shot of hot fudge.”
-decided that the neighborly thing would be to see what he wanted.
Sighing heavily, Kristen climbed out of bed, crossed the room, pushed the curtains aside, unlocked her window and shoved it open before plucking the large milkshake out of the bastard’s hand, taking a much-needed sip, murmured her approval before she closed the window, threw the lock, let the curtain fall back into place and-
“You forgot something,” came the softly drawled words that had her taking a sip of the incredibly delicious creamy concoction as she turned back around and shoved the curtains aside only to release a whimper when she saw it.
Her one true weakness.
He didn’t say anything else, but then again, he didn’t need to. Swallowing hard, Kristen unlocked the window with a trembling hand and frantically shoved it open before she reached over and-
“Let me in,” Garrett said, pulling the Hostess Snoball out of her reach.
“You’re fine where you are,” Kristen pointed out, absently taking another sip of the delicious milkshake even as she reached over to snatch the tasty baked good that she craved day and night out of the large bastard’s hand only to have it pulled away again.
“How about now?” Garrett asked, giving the beautiful pink treat in his hand a pointed wiggle that left her struggling to focus.
It had been so long since she sank her teeth into the soft marshmallow treat covered in baked coconut…
“You have five minutes,” Kristen said, moving to snatch the delicious treat out of his hand only to once again have it pulled out of her reach.
“Ten,” Garrett said, giving the pink-coconutty treat another shake while she stood there, telling herself that she didn’t care. She-
“Ten,” she said, snatching the tasty treat out of his hand before making her way back to her bed only to stop, sigh heavily and make her way back around the bed when she realized that the dog that really needed a name had rolled over onto her side.
Taking another sip, Kristen climbed onto her bed, adjusted her pillows, sat back, shifted to get more comfortable, took another sip, and then, gestured for him to get on with it as she said, “You may now waste your time.”
Nodding absently, Garrett slowly exhaled as he glanced around the room, taking in everything from the 80’s movie posters lining the walls to the pink bunny slippers that he gave her for Christmas when they were fifteen before pausing on the stack of notebooks that she kept on the nightstand. “You haven’t published anything new in a while,” he said, before glancing at her.
“And you have eight minutes left,” Kristen pointed out, gesturing with the delicious treat for him to get on with it.
“You left before I could explain everything,” Garrett pointed out as Kristen enjoyed one more sip of the creamy, chocolatey concoction before placing it on the nightstand.
“I learned from the best,” Kristen pointed out, tearing open the delicious treat while she watched him struggle to bite back a wince.
“Fair enough,” Garrett murmured, clearing his throat as he glanced around her room, clearly searching for something, anything, that would save him from this conversation.
