“That was a good impression, Chipmunk.” Daddy leaned over and kissed my head as I reached for my pirate ship. “I take it she doesn’t like how much privacy you want.”
“Nope.” I gave Daddy a big sigh and leaned over to get another kiss. “She says love means talk and talk means share and share means tell everyone.”
“Oh, yeah, I can see that being a problem.” His thinky face was back. “Does your father keep that stuff under control? I honestly hadn’t heard anything about you being little and I’m not sure I knew you were gay. I thought I heard somewhere that you dated a few girls a year or so ago?”
“Ugh.” I needed more kisses, so I gave Daddy pucker lips and he laughed before giving me happy boosts.
“You look like a fish.” He snickered and gave me more good feelings. “I take it that wasn’t something I hallucinated?”
“No.” Bad dreams would’ve been better. “I had to be nice and being nice meant a date and a date meant they tried to like me.”
Daddy’s wide eyes came back. “How did that happen?”
“Being nice is dangerous, Daddy.” I shrugged. “Her real work people who do business stuff came to visit. They were real boring people and they brought their kids. Kids were not kids, Daddy.”
Ugh.
“Mom said ‘you’ll play with the kids’ and I said ‘yes, I like playing’…but kids were old.” Somebody had been sneaky. “I got tricked.”
Trying not to laugh, Daddy shook his head. “I’m sorry, but that does explain things.”
“I’m too nice.” I pouted. “You’ll save me?”
“From your mother?” Daddy reached for the fishing boat as I nodded. “Deal. I’ll save you from your mother’s good intentions, but you have to remind me that my mother doesn’t have any.”
She was mean.
“Deal.” I gave Daddy my serious face and then my gimmie a kiss face. He was smart and gave me what I wanted. “I’ll help you remember my Daddy is nice and special.”
“Um, let’s just stick with special?” Daddy shrugged when I tried not to laugh. “I’m not sure we can realistically say nice.”
Hmpf.
“My Daddy is nice to me.” He was very nice to me. “He plays and cuddles and shops and gives baths and had grown-up time with me.”
Daddy’s smile came back. “And don’t forget that I feed you.”
“No more soup. Yay.”
Having a Daddy was nice.
Chapter 13
Levi
“Why haven’t you already disappeared?” Gary paused in the door of the kitchen, watching me like I was doing something weird instead of just grabbing coffee.
“Teddy’s friend stole him this morning. She’s competitive, and she got up at an obscene hour for her and took him to go shop for something. I don’t remember what Teddy texted me but it was something about one of the new women she’s dating.”
She was a menace to every nice lesbian on campus.
“So you’re not pulling a Dante and we can actually talk about your guy?” Finally stepping into the kitchen, Gary pressed his lips together like he was trying not to laugh. “It’s hard to keep track of who’s talking about their love life and who isn’t.”
Heading over to the table, I sat down and shrugged. “I’m not hiding him and he’s not closeted or anything. He’s private, though, but not as much as Ruslan. Just don’t talk about him being into anything specific and it’s fine.”
I really needed to clarify who I could say what to.
“Deal.” Gary headed over to the communal coffee pot that had more buttons than a spaceship and sighed as he got himself a cup. “We’ve got a few friends in common and I’m pretty sure someone said he was little, but…but can I ask if it’s casual or…”
