“They’re pretty, Daddy.” Oh. “The pink one. I like the pink one.”

Wide eyes.

Shocked face.

Careful face.

“That’s a very pretty color, you’re right.” Daddy was so nice…and so funny…and so huffy. “Hey, don’t fuck with me about something that ugly. It’s Pepto-Bismol pink. It looks like someone vomited bubblegum on that house.”

Hahaha.

Naked boy.

Funny boy.

Daddy stood up and got his frown face on and crossed his arms. “I was worried I was going to hurt your feelings.”

“You’re so cute.” Kiss. Kiss. “Thank you for being nice, Daddy.”

More grumbles from Daddy.

I was so funny.

“And somehow every flower they planted clashes with the color of the house. How do you do that?” Daddy got wound up about houses.

“I don’t know.” Daddy was frustrated but Daddy held my hand. “Thank you, Daddy.”

Careful in the tub.

Careful in the bubbles.

No more stickies.

“You look like you just melted into a hot tub.” Daddy laughed when I nodded. “Would you like a house that had one of those?”

“Yes.” Grown-up bubbles. “Little house. Big tub.”

He pretended to look thinky. “Medium house. Big inside tub. Big outside hot tub.”

Oh yes.

“We’d need both.” Daddy shrugged. “And a big yard. I won’t forget.”

Silly Daddy was going to keep his boy.

“Daddy will remember the toys too.” Daddy poured in my toys, shaking his head. “And you need a bathroom big enough to store toys inside the bathroom.”

I shrugged.

“It’s okay to be a private person, Teddy.”

Daddy laughed so hard he almost tipped over. “Oh my god, that impression is spot on. That was your mother.”

Closing the lid, Daddy sat down on the toilet and grumbled. “There’s not even enough floor space in there for me to sit down beside you.”

Nope.

Smiles were back.
