Chapter Fifty-Eight
PAUL
I’m going to kill him.
This douche bag thinks he can walk into Elle’s building and put his little bitch lips on her? I barely register the sound of a door closing before I get my hands on Elle, ripping her from Loop’s arms. I’m curling my first, getting ready to punch this dirtbag but Elle beats me to it.
“What is wrong with you?” Her voice is shrill as she makes contact with his nose. Blood explodes from his nose and his answer is a groan. “Way to be, Grandma.” I can’t keep the laughter in my voice hidden but Elle is already pulling her arm back for round two and I know I can’t let her hit him again.
The first one could be argued as self defense. “Woah, slow down.” I put myself between Elle and this fucking loser, turning to face him, “Get the hell out of here and maybe we’ll consider not reporting you for sexual assault, you fucking creep.” Loop’s eyes flit between Elle and me before he turns on his heels and storms out of the office.
I’m tempted to follow him out and make sure the freak gets the hell out of here but a whimper at my back has me freezing.
“I have to go. Patrick, he, Patrick saw.” My heart clenches at the anguish in Elle’s voice. I turn around to attempt to comfortElle but she’s already moving. Her movements are jerky as she grabs her keys and pushes past me. “I have to stop him. I need to explain.”
I see tears free flowing as she storms past me. “Elle, wait!” I start to run after her but my shout is drowned out by the sound of a car starting. “Stop!” Elle basically screams as Patrick pulls out of the employee parking lot, speeding down the street and quickly disappearing.
Elle’s running and I’m chasing, there is no way she can drive in the state she’s in and I’ll be damned if that fucking loser ruins Elle and Patrick’s relationship. As I do my best to keep up with my sister while also trying to pull my phone out of my pocket, I’m assuming he won’t answer any calls from Elle but maybe he would respond to me. I take my eyes off of Elle while I get my stupid facial recognition to work on my phone when I hear an earth shattering scream.
Elle is on the ground, clutching her ankle.
I rush over to her and know it’s bad. “Fucking gopher holes.” Her skin is already starting to bruise. “Elle, we have to get you to the hospital.” I slip her arm over my shoulder and she starts to fight me. “No! I need to get to Patrick, he can’t believe that I wou—” She cuts herself off with another scream when she attempts to put weight on her ankle. “We’ll get to him but I think your ankle may be broken.” I can tell she wants to disagree but she once again tries to use her ankle and we both know it’s not going to happen. “Once we get you to the hospital, I’ll send out a group message and we’ll get Mama or one of the girls to find him and set him straight. Don’t worry.”
Once we get in the car, I peel out to the main road and keep my foot on the gas, breaking more than one traffic law.
Chapter Fifty-Nine
WARREN FAMILY GROUP CHAT
Paul: I am with Elle at Urgent Care. She hurt her ankle in a gopher hole. We think she dropped her phone in the fall, we can’t find it.
Mabel: What the hell?? Is she okay?
Lola: ????
Paul: She was running after Patrick, fucking Douche Loop tried to kiss her and Patrick walked into the office. It’s a giant cluster but she really hurt her ankle and may have messed up her hand.
Mama: Her hand? Did she land funny?
Mabel: I’m going to kill that weasel!!
Paul: No, she didn’t land funny, she punched him in the face after he assaulted her with his slimy fish lips.
Mabel: Hell yeah, Elle! I hope you broke something….on him, I pray none of your sweet bits are broken.
Mama: That’s my girl.
Lola: Hold up. Chasing Patrick? Did anyone catch him?
Paul: No and he’s not answering either of our calls. We are still in the waiting room and who knows when they’ll actually take Elle back.
Mama: What do you need?
Paul: I’m supposed to pick up Henry from Anika in 30 minutes but I’m not leaving Elle. Mama, can you grab him for me? We need someone to get some comfy clothes for Elle because hers are dirty from the fall and we need someone to try and reach Patrick. Try to explain as best you can.
Mama: You got it. Keep me updated.
Mabel: I’m home so I can run to Elle’s house and pick up clothes for her.
