His words caught me off guard.I nodded, not trusting myself to respond.
He slowed as we reached the bathroom.“I’ll see you back in class?”
“Yeah,” I whispered.“Thanks for walking with me.”
“Anytime.”He leaned down and gave me a peck on my lips, pulling away with a genuine smile before heading back down the hall.
I watched him go, wishing we could just continue walking around while we talked.Instead, I went into the bathroom and decided I really did need to go.
Chapter Seven
When I came out ofthe bathroom, I jumped.Bryan was back, leaning against the wall, waiting for me with my coat in his hand.
“What?”I asked, eyeing him.
He straightened, a slow grin spreading across his face.“Here,” he said, holding my coat out like some kind of gentleman but with a mischievous look on his face.
I scowled.“Bryan, I can’t miss physics class.I’m already behind.”
He glanced at his phone.“We have plenty of time.Your class is in the afternoon.I’ll have you back in time.”He slipped one sleeve of the coat toward me.“Come on.”His voice softened.“You definitely didn’t eat this morning. And there’s this bakery a town over.Really good sandwiches. You’ll like it.”
I hesitated.“You don’t have to take me out.”
He rolled his eyes like that was the worst possible answer.“Cadence, it’s food. With your boyfriend.”A smirk tugged at his mouth.“Pretty sure that’s allowed.”
My cheeks warmed.“I know. It’s just...you don’t have to spoil me.”
“Oh, I absolutely do.”He managed to get my arm through the sleeve without much help from me.“In fact, I consider it a job requirement.”
I snorted.“Job requirement?”
“Yep.”He began getting my other arm through the other sleeve.“Clause 2B of the Boyfriend Agreement.Weekly lunch dates, mandatory pastries, and making sure my girlfriend actually eats food.”
“That’s not in any agreement,” I said, amused.
“It is now.”He nudged me gently toward the exit.“Come with me?I already let Hazel know so she’s going to take precious care of your things still at study hall. We’ll go get high on sugar. You’ll like it.”
