He didn't care...much."You think I should've allowed him to poison the entire pack? How could they go from being suspicious to eating things containing his magic in a day?"
Her gaze flew over his face, and a small crease formed between her brows."Do you trust Ulric?"
He huffed."Of course."
"And Geri?"
"You know I do."
"And Farkas?Or do you think he's been corrupted by witches?"
"No, I don't think he's been corrupted by witches."A small smile tugged at his lips.Farkas hated witches.Rourke wanted to protect him now while he was as frail as he was, but normally, Farkas was one of their strongest fighters.
"And yet you don't trust their judgment.Three men were in the room with Ezra, and they all deemed it safe.Cookies."
"You know they stop thinking when there are cookies."Maybe he'd overreacted, but they couldn't trust magic.
"True, but none of them was hurt.Word around the dining hall is Ulric got to relax, Farkas took a nap, and Geri got hungry.Truly horrifying things."
"But they couldn't know."
"No.I guess it came down to trusting Ezra or not."
Rourke didn't reply.
"You're going to eat?"She stood.
"Yeah."Rourke got up, and together they walked out into the corridor. The scent of cookies still hung in the air, but Rourke did his best to ignore it.
When he stepped over the threshold to the dining hall, he spotted Ulric and Tala by the table closest to the window.Ezra wasn't there.Maybe he'd eaten already.
Rourke walked toward the kitchen area, disappointed to see no one had cooked anything.Fuck.He wanted real food, not a sandwich.
Due grabbed a lunch box from the freezer with her name on it and popped it into the microwave.
"What are you eating?"Rourke longingly watched it spin behind the see-through door.
"Leftover Thai."
His stomach growled, and he walked to the pantry with a sigh.Bread it was.
He fixed himself a plate with a mountain of sandwiches and headed to sit next to Ulric and Tala.Ulric was leaning back, his arm lazily slung over the backrest of the neighboring chair and his right foot resting on his left knee--relaxed.It had been a long time since Rourke had seen him like that.
"Is Ezra okay?"Ulric turned his head in his direction.
"Why wouldn't he be?"
Ulric shrugged."Because you snarled at him.I don't think he's used to having shifters snarl at him."
Eh...no, he most likely wasn't."He locked himself in the bathroom."
Ulric huffed a laugh."Poor thing. He was okay when he came out, though?"
"Ah...I left."
Silence fell, and Rourke did his best not to feel guilty, but he should've checked on Ezra at some point.
"You snarled at him and left?"
