“Lies.”
“All of it.It took months, but they are back together again, married, and living happily ever after. The kicker?”He smirked and finished his bottle of water.“It took a couple of years, but it’s a doozy.”
“What?”
“That guy I told the woman that was dead?He is now married to my cousin, my only living blood relative I have on this earth. We are cousins, while he and the woman are blood siblings.”
Petra couldn’t help it, she started to giggle, which turned into a laugh, and it took several minutes before she could get herself under control.“Oh my god, that’s priceless.Do you see each other at holidays?”
“No,” Psycho said sadly as he shook his head.“When I left to go undercover with the Devil’s Scorpions I sold my house, and gave everything I owned, even a brand new Harley to my cousin.Oh, and remember that insane amount of money Carmen gave me to kidnap that woman?”
“Yes?”
“I gave it to my cousin.I learned a few weeks ago that she and her husband opened accounts for their children for college. She can’t have children, so they adopted.”
“That was nice of them.”
“It was, now I know they’re set for life, I can move onto my next mission, and that’s why I’m here.”
“Wait, you never said why Flynn and Kessler owe you.”
“Oh, remember when I said they found us and took us to the hospital?”
“Yes, what about it.”
“They left me there with a bullet hole in my head and took care of her.”
“They left you for dead?”
“Yes, by the time they returned, I was still breathing, they panicked and took me to a different hospital in a different county.I was a drive and dump.”
“What’s that?”
“They drove up to the emergency room, opened the back door, pushed me out, and drove off.”
“Holy shit, what happened next?”
“Hidden in my colors was my cop ID.The hospital called the locals, they came, took my prints, and realized I was who my identification said I was.I was already in a coma and by the time they contacted my cousin, several days had passed. They also realized I was a veteran, so they shipped me off to the nearest VA hospital.I was in a coma for months, and when I came to, I had absolutely no memory. Not even of my cousin, let alone my own name. She, my cousin, came every day to visit me, and eventually, I started to get better. It took two years, and when I remembered everything that had happened during that event, I was asked by both Flynn and Kessler to head out to the Devil’s Scorpions.”
“Damn,” Petra said with a shake of her head.“That’s a tall tale.”
“It’s real,” he said as he pulled a card from his pocket.“Flynn gave me permission to give you this.”
“What is it?”Petra asked as she took the small piece of paper from him, opened it, and frowned.“I don’t understand.”
“That’s the case number of the event I just told you about with the drug lord and Carmen. The bottom number is a one-time only clearance number. If you access the file, you use that clearance number. If you log out before reading everything, you can’t get back in.It’s also safety protected so that no files can be printed. It will not be redacted in anyway, so you will have access to names, dates, locations.”
“Oh wow, I’ve never heard of that.”
“That’s because that case file I gave you is the unredacted one.”He looked at his watch, sighed heavily, and pushed his chair back.“I’ll give you twenty-four hours to read it.Once you do, call me,” he said as he placed a business card on the table.“I have a proposition for you, but I want you to be one hundred percent sure of me before you contact me.Having you read the case file is the only way.”
“Why me?What do you want me for?”
“Another undercover mission. That’s all I can say until you agree to help me.As for you, I’m going to be brutally honest here Petra, you may run away screaming, but it’s the God’s honest truth.”He held up his fingers with the Boy Scout sign.“I fell for you while we were with the Devil’s Scorpions.Hard.I never tried anything because I thought you were one of them, and not one of us.It wasn’t until I read the arrest records a month later and didn’t find your name on anything that I went to Flynn. He admitted that you were undercover as well.I’ll tell you later, but there were others as well.”
“Broken record again, but holy shit.I know I sound like a broken record with that phrase, but I can’t think of anything else to say.Your lucky, Psycho.”
“Why?”
