She’s in. Monday’s paper.
Jackson
That was fast.
Me
I can be very persuasive.
Jackson
What did you promise her?
Me
Locker room access. No big deal. Gerard will probably love the attention.
Jackson
True. So I guess this is it. You and me—boyfriends.
Me
Yeah. I’m going to be the best damn boyfriend you’ve ever had.
Jackson
You’re going to be the only boyfriend I’ve ever had lol.
And damn if that doesn’t make my chest puff out.

From Opposites to Obvious: Why Drew and Jackson were Always Meant to Be
A love story hiding in plain sight

I’m not usually one for “I told you so,” but when it comes to Drew Larney and Jackson Monroe, I’m making an exception. Because, while our anonymous blogger has been busy stalking hockey players’ posteriors and documenting the effect of water temperature on anatomy, I’ve been digging into the real story.
Last fall, Gerard Gunnarson introduced my best friend to a world of hockey players. One of them happened to be Drew Larney—a cocky, bisexual man, and owner of the most active libido on the East Coast. Meanwhile, Elliot had his own gang, consisting of me and Jackson Monroe, BSU’s star quarterback, who could have any girl on campus if he wanted to.
Hockey player meets football star. They should have had nothing in common except mutual concern for theirromantically challenged best friends. Drew, with his crude jokes and tendency to flirt with anything that moved. Jackson, with his boy-next-door charm and carefully maintained reputation. Oil and water, fire and ice, and a whole list of other clichés that would make my journalism professor weep.
And yet, Drew and Jackson clicked immediately. They bonded over their shared exasperation as Gerard and Elliot danced around each other for days on end. They attended each other’s games, had “study dates” at The Brew, and spent almost every waking minute texting each other funny memes.
They became a unit without realizing it. Where one went, the other followed. They even spent Thanksgiving together and nearly burned down the Hockey House in the process!
The Polar Bear Plunge only made it more obvious. Maybe it was the shock of the frigid temperatures. Or it was that they were unable to fight the inevitable anymore. But something made them realize that they’d be even happier together as boyfriends.
“I can’t explain it,” said Jackson when asked why he decided to date the most notorious player on campus. “Drew fills a void in me that I didn’t even know needed filling. I know it’s cheesy to say, ‘he completes me,’ but he does.
When I spoke with Drew, he had this to say: “Jacky, as I like to call him, is the guy I’ve been looking for my whole life. He’s someone who puts me first, but not at the expense of himself. He’s someone that I know will be around for a long time. Maybe even forever.”
