“You’re pathetic,” Caspian sighed in annoyance. “Will possessing me save you?” What? He was giving me permission to possess him? He wanted me to survive… When I didn’t respond he dropped to his knees beside me.
“I would never let something Ava cares about die if I can help it.”
“How noble,” I wheezed in distaste.
“Shut up. You’re useful, okay?”
“Oh?” I said, demanding he indulged me. I wanted to live, yes, but if I could make him spill all his guts and pump up my ego in the process then why not? Who cares if I was moments away from true death, I had time to make him uncomfortable. Caspian ground his teeth and I smiled.
“You help Ava. You saved her from the curse. You’ve helped her overcome her fear of ghosts. You can make her stronger. I won’t have you fucking dying.”
“Hmm, I don’t know. Maybe it’s my time,” I said flippantly. “Wouldn’t want to be the odd one out. The one no one else likes.”
“Will you shut the fuck up and possess me already,” Caspian seethed.
“Well, since you asked so nicely.” My black-coated skeletal arm snapped out, latching around Caspian’s neck. His eyes went wide before narrowing on me.
“Open wide, pretty boy,” I said, pushing up off the ground and into his mouth. He coughed and gagged, shooting up to his feet and stumbling around the room as he clawed at his neck, choking on me.
“Ava’s better at this than you,” I said, settling inside him. He hacked and coughed.
“Motherfucker,” he hissed. I pushed in control. Caspian wasn’t like Ava. He had no power over me and so taking over his body was an easy task. Or should have been.
“Be good and let me drive the flesh sleeve,” I growled as he battled for control. We stumbled around the room, one arm grabbing at the other. The light on the nightstand crashed to the floor. Then he went to his knees and began violently vomiting.
Which was about the normal reaction I got when I tried to possess humans. He spit me all back up. I was determined not to die now. My sights snapped to Mothman. He groaned as he realized my focus was on him.
“Fine, fine,” he grumbled, dropping to his knees. I crawled up his body before plunging in his mouth.
Immediately, I regretted wanting to live. High-pitched screeching bombarded my head, clawing at my thoughts and tearing them to pieces. It felt as if something were attempting to peel me apart by the atoms, shred me so thoroughly there wouldn’t even be a stain.
I ejected myself while screaming.
“Fuck,” I seethed after I collected myself. Were those histhoughts? That would be the last time I tried possessing something from another world.
I looked up at Brandon and smiled. Third time’s the charm.
“Time to ride the doggy,” I said, a smile etched into my poorly defined face. Brandon ground his teeth in anger.
“Fuck you, Makwa.”
“If you want but right now be a good dog and open up,” I snarled with a smile at Brandon, sending a tentacle out to wrap around his neck. I couldn’t help myself, he was just so fun to play with. He tried to stay up, holding the tight grasp on his throat. He went to his hands and knees on the ground.
I slid a tentacle under his chin and lifted his angry face. He spat at me and I laughed.
“Now open up,” I said. Brandon panted, straining against his collar and leash.
“Fine,” he gritted out.
“Good boy,” I said as he opened his mouth. “Wider,” I said, just to fuck with him. He swallowed and did it. Well, I liked that. With a laugh I pressed into his mouth, forcing my body into his. He tried to cough and gag around me. Then finally, I was all in.
Brandon inhaled sharply, lifting up on his knees and looking at Caspian and Mothman. His hands went to his face—the deer skull was back. I waited hesitantly. I didn’t know what I’d do if this didn’t work. Find some hole in the ground to bury myself in for eons if I could. I doubted that was an option though.
“Brandon,” Caspian said, coming over and grabbing his skull mask in his hands. I wasn’t in control so he would see the blue. I was too hesitant to try for control. Too worried my last hope was a failure.
“Are you okay?” Caspian asked him, his eyes trailing over the skull.
“I’m… fine,” Brandon finally said after some hesitation. “Makwa?” He asked. I felt like smiling.
