Hawkeye shook his head.“Not that I know of.I’m careful.Since I became sexually active at sixteen I’ve always wrapped it.”

“Wrapped it?”

“Condoms, baby.I always use condoms.Or I have in the past.I don’t think I want to with you.”

She frowned.“Why not?”she didn’t see what made her different from all the other women he’d been with.

“I don’t want anything between you and me, little dove.I want to feel every bit of you surrounding me.I want to show you how good it can be between us.”

“Good?”she said with a frown.“Sex has always been something to endure.I never understood why some women seem to enjoy it.”

“Why doesn’t that surprise me?I can show you how good it can feel, baby.If you want.”

“Are you sure?I don’t want to say yes, then have you feel like you’re stuck with me because you told me if we start something it’s forever.”

Chapter Twenty-One

“What else do I needto understand?”

Hawkeye watched her, wanting to see her reactions.“I’m not a good man, little dove.I’ve got blood on my hands.I’ve killed people.”

She blinked but didn’t look away.“You killed the men last night, didn’t you?”He heard no judgement in her voice.

He rolled his lips inward and bit them as he wondered how she would react if he was honest. He wouldn’t lie but he could evade the question. After a moment he decided to be honest. It was better to know if she couldn’t handle his way of life now rather than years down the road.

“I did.I’m not the only one.We killed every single Crow we came across.”

“Does that mean the police will come for you? Will you and the others have to go away?”

Hawkeye shook his head.“Smokey set a fire before we left.It will have destroyed any evidence we were there. At least everything that can be traced back to us.There will be enough to let the cops know who died, when they get around to running the DNA.But other than it being a fire with multiple fatalities, I don’t think the case will be a high priority.”

“Why not?”she asked with a frown.

“Partly because the local cops will see the Crows being gone as cleaning up the streets.Basically, community service. They’ll only worry if someone moves in and takes over the shit the Crows were running. They’ll go in and investigate but it won’t be a priority.”He didn’t say he would hack into the system and make sure nothing led back to them. That was more than she needed to worry about.

Delilah closed her eyes and he wondered what she was thinking. Was she trying to figure out how to get away from the Angels? Not that she had to worry. He’d help her get on her feet and walk away if that was what she wanted. It would be the hardest thing he ever did, but he would do it if that was what made her happy.
