I’m pretty surethat last part was supposed to be for my ears only, but Buzz didn’t have avolume switch when it came to his voice, and Grip bust out laughing whileHammer flipped him off.
“Oh, wait, areyou Huck the Puck?” Hammer asked.
“See?” Buzzsaid. “Little slow on the uptake, this one.”
I grinned. “Iam.”
“Shit, man,sorry about your knee.”
“All good.” Itook a swig of my beer.
“Buzz!” Weturned to see Hatch at the slider, and he gave me a chin lift. “Hey, Huck, goodto see you.”
I tipped my beertoward him. “You too.”
“You need me,Prez?” Buzz asked.
“Yeah. You needto settle a bet.”
“Right. Beback.” He grinned, jabbing a finger at me. “Don’t move.”
I gave him asalute and he jogged inside.
“Are youprospecting for the club, too?” Grip asked.
Before I couldanswer, Hammer jumped in. “We’ve been sloggin’ for almost a year. Word camedown at tonight’s meeting, and Hatch and the officers said we could prospect, which means, soon we’ll have access to everything the club has to offer.”
“And what doesthe club offer?” I asked.
Hammer rubbedhis hands together. “A fine selection of pussy for one.”
“All you ever dois think with your dick,” Grip lamented.
Hammer scoffed.“Like you’re one to talk.”
“I think with mydick and my liver,” Grip said, raising his beer. “Which gash is it this week?”
My bloodpressure was starting to rise. I was no stranger to locker room talk, and hadheard it all, but hearing these assholes refer to women like that was about tosend me over the goddamn edge.
“I’ve got mysights on little Miss Daisy,” Hammer said.
I fisted my freehand at my side.
“Shit, Ham, theVP’s daughter? Are you high?” Grip hissed.
“No, but yougotta aim high if you want to reach that grade-A puss-A.”
As my arm beganto cock back, I had a split-second of clarity, kind of like when the littlecartoon angel appears to remind our hero to do the right thing, but before tinySaint Huck could get a word in, my fist had already connected with Hammer’sface.
“Whoa!” Gripexclaimed as Hammer’s stiffened body hit the ground. “What the fuck, man?”
“Do you havesomething to say, or do you want to drag this asshole outta my sight?” Idemanded.
“What the hell,Huck?” Buzz bellowed on his return. “I left for ten minutes and you’re punchingout my recruits?”
I pointed to theground. “There’s a couple of his teeth right there, you might want to pick themup. It’ll help the dentist with the implants.” Buzz raised his hands and shook hishead in confusion, and I tapped my jaw. “Hockey player, remember?”
“You gonna tellme what the hell happened?”
