“Remember whenwe had no idea about fire starters before me?” Pepper pointed out.

What’s a firestarter?

Pepper andher sisters are part of the trifecta, fire, ice, and earth. She can start fireout of nothing and when she was first bound and didn’t know about her powers, she would start fires without warning. It was very scary for her.

I glanced atPhin.Like me ending up not knowing where the heck I am?

He smiled.Exactly.Only, you can’t kill someone with your gift.

Jury’s stillout on that.

“Teleportation?Like, ‘beam me up, Scottie’?” Liam asked, and Billie punched him in the arm.“Ow, what was that for?”

“How about youtry having some sensitivity for a change?” Billie hissed.

“What? He wasthe only Scotsman on board,” Liam protested.

I chuckled.“It’s okay, Billie. I appreciate you having my back, but I’m good.”

Let’s be honest, though, I was good because I was connected to my mate, and Iknewhe wasworking overtime to calm me.

“Actually,Liam’s not too far off,” Fiona said, bringing me over to an open book andpointing to the page on the right. “This is one of our sacred texts. They tellthe story of the Kalt Ein people as far back as anyone can remember, and as farforward as anyone has foretold.”

“How old isthis?” I asked.

“We’re not quitesure of the date the original text was written, but this copy comes from thetwelfth century BCE.” Fiona smiled. “Can you read the ancient text?”

As I looked atthe page, words that at first made no sense to me suddenly came into focus. Thedeeper I concentrated, the more I understood.

“Good,” Fionasaid. “Can you read what’s on the page?”

“It says thatteleportation is the rarest of all Cauld Ane abilities.”

“That’s right,”Fiona replied, excitedly. “Go on.”

“Only two knownteleporters are known to have existed, both of whom were eventually captured, subdued with Red Fang, and ex—”

“Executed,”Phineas, said softly.

“That was a longtime ago,” Fiona said. “Literally, ancient history. Besides, the twoteleporters before you, both died before finding their mates.”

“What’s sosignificant about that?” Liam asked.

“Becauseteleportation is only one potential ability ofsá sem er takmarkalaus.”Kade looked directly at me. “Those who are boundless.”

I gasped,leaning heavily against Phin.

“That doesn’tmean you can’t be bound,” Fiona rushed to say.

“They’re alreadybound,” Kade pointed out.

“What I mean tosay, is it’s not wrong that they’re bound,” Fiona said with a huff.

“Don’t freak herout, baby,” Samantha admonished.

“Sorry,” Kadesaid quickly.

“Why doeseveryone think I’m going to freak out?” I asked, tempering my question with asmile.
