I fell against him, and he wrapped an arm around me, guiding me out of the room.

“Where’s Doc?” I demanded, stopping and digging my feet in.

“Alamo’s gettin’ him. Gotta get you out, sweetheart, okay?” he said, trying to get me to move. “Don’t make me carry you outta here.”

“I need Doc.”

“I get it, but we’re on a limited timeframe, Olivia.” He tightened his hold and dragged me outside, handing me off to Rabbit. “Back to the compound,” he growled, and Rabbit nodded.

“What about Doc?”

“Get in the truck, Liv,” Doom ordered.

“I want to wait for Doc.”

“I don’t have time to stand here and explain why you can’t fuckin’ wait for Doc,” Doom growled. “Get in the goddamn truck!”

“You don’t get to speak to me like that, you fucking Neanderthal!”

“Liv, we gotta go,” Rabbit said. “If anything happens to you, Doc’s gonna fuckin’ kill every one of us. Will you let Doom do his thing?”

Doom had already headed back into the building and I tried to follow, but Rabbit grabbed me and dragged me away.

“Jesus, woman, you’re stronger than you look.”

“Give me a gun,” I demanded.

“I’m not giving you a gun,” he said, opening the passenger side of his pick-up.

“Rabbit, I need to get back—”

He grabbed my arms and squeezed. “Listen to me. You are not going back into that building. I am taking you back to the club where you will be locked down and safe. If I deviate from that plan, Doc’ll have my nuts in a sack. You are pregnant, Olivia. You have to think about the babies. Protect them. Let us worry about your man, okay?”

I blinked back tears, but he was right. I couldn’t barrel in there, shooting willy-nilly and expect to come out unscathed. I nodded and climbed up into the truck, letting him drive me back to the compound.

Rabbit walked me inside and then left again, and I was suddenly surrounded by my women.

Jasmine hugged me first, then checked me over. “Are you okay? What happened?”

“I’m okay,” I said, although, I wasn’t entirely sure that was true. The adrenaline hadn’t worn off, so I could be hurt and not fully be aware.

Willow hugged me next, then produced a pair of scissors and cut off the other zip-tie. I’d completely forgotten I’d been wearing it.

For the next two hours, I filled them in on everything that had happened, including giving Lyric a play-by-play on exactly how badly I was going to hurt her man when he got back.

She rolled her eyes. “Sorry, babycakes, that’s him in protection mode. And I agree with him, so I’m on his side. I can’t believe you thought about going back in there...and I’m pissed Joey was part of this. Swear to Christ, that boy’s gonna get the full brunt of my irritation.”

“I did warn him you’d be on the warpath.”

Lyric shook her head. “He doesn’t realize I’ve been checking up on him, and I’m fixin’ to go deeper. That little bastard isn’t gonna know what hit him.”

I nodded. “Please refer to him as ‘Little Shit’ going forward.”

Lyric chuckled. “No problem.”

I rubbed my arms as I paced the great room. “Where the hell are they?”

Willow stood and wrapped an arm around me. “You should sit down, honey. You look really pale.”
