TWO DAYS LATER, Doom called me into Doc’s office and I felt like I was being summoned to detention.
As I walked in, Doom closed the door behind me, and Doc waved to the chair across from his desk. “Everything okay?” I asked.
“Got a message from Sugar Bear,” Doc said.
My heart raced. “Do I want to know?”
“Families are off-limits,” he said, taking his seat.
I gasped. “Really?”
“Yeah,” he said. “But only here in Savannah. Sugar won’t guarantee outside chapters. He also won’t admit to anyone this is happenin’. It’s an unwritten law, but he’s made it clear to anyone within a hundred mile radius. Families are safe.”
“That’s great.” I glanced at Doom, his face like stone. “It’s great, right?”

“If you can get him out,” Doc said.
