“Why?”

“I don’t sleep much.”

“I take it back. I hate you.”

He grinned, kissing me quickly. “I’m with you today, so you can sleep on the way to the lot.”

“Okay,” I said, and sighed. “I won’t be long.”

I took a quick shower and dressed in jeans and a hoodie, piling my hair on top of my head. I didn’t give two shits about makeup, I was way too tired, so I didn’t bother with it and shuffled to the car where Jaxon let me sleep all the way to the lot.

It wasn’t long enough.

“We’re here, Rufus,” he whispered, kissing me gently.

I forced my eyes open to find him standing in my doorway. “I don’t wanna,” I whined.

He grinned and squeezed my knee. “We’ll get you more coffee inside.”

I nodded and climbed out of the car, grabbing my bag and following him inside.

Melody was late, but there was nothing I could do about it, so I set myself up in a corner of the open space and Jaxon found some privacy screens to create a makeshift office.

My first interview arrived twenty minutes later, and then it was game on for three hours straight. I had twenty-five qualified candidates, and twenty-three of them arrived and fangirled for way too long, so they were immediately disqualified. The last thing my sister needed was someone who’d be so starstruck, they wouldn’t get anything done. I spent fifteen minutes with them, then cut them loose. There was one girl who couldn’t stop talking about Jaxon and how hot he was, so she got cut loose in less time. She was lucky I didn’t draw blood as she walked away.

I spent a little more time with the two who didn’t fangirl, or ogle my man. Both were highly qualified and no nonsense.

I was currently finishing up with Renee, thankfully my last interview of the day, when my sister came storming into the space. “They put mayo on my sandwich, Harmony. Mayonnaise.”

I forced myself not to roll my eyes. “Melody, this is Renee Welsh, she’s interviewing for your assistant position.”

“Nice to meet you,” she said without looking at her, and shoved the sandwich toward me. “Mayo.”

“Did you ask them to make you another one? Or, God forbid, make one yourself?” I asked.

“They’re out of the good bread.”

“Did they put the mayo on both sides?” Renee asked.

“Well, no,” Melody confirmed.

“I have an idea.” She reached for the plate. “May I?”

“Knock yourself out,” I said.

She led Melody around the privacy screen and I watched as they headed to the craft services table.

“Everything okay?” Jaxon asked, stepping over to me.

“We’ll see shortly,” I said, watching Renee and Melody.

Renee appeared to make Melody a sandwich and my sister took a bite, smiled, then walked away...without throwing a fit.

“She’s hired,” I said, and Jaxon chuckled. “I’m not joking. She’s hired. If she can deal with Melody without killing her, she’s a miracle worker.”

“You’re worried aboutReneenot killing Melody?”

“Yes. I’m not a monster. I still love my sister, even if she’s a pain in the ass.”
