“You’re not worried about Melody killing Renee?” he asked.
“Little known fact about my sister. She yells a lot, but she’s a chicken shit.”
Jaxon nodded. “Thanks for the info.”
“Hire her!” Melody yelled across the room.
I gave her a thumbs-up and smiled at Jaxon. “One step closer to freedom.”
He grinned and I went about sending all of Renee’s information to Lyric so she could run a background check. If all went well, and Renee accepted the terms of the employment offer, I could start my life. Finally.
Renee returned and indicated she’d be interested in the position, so with a promise to be in touch, she went on her way and I gathered all my crap, so I could get the hell out of there.
“You ready?” Jaxon asked.
I nodded. “Who’s with my sisters?”
“Matt.”
“Your brother?”
“Yes.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Do I get to meet him?”
“Do you want to?” he asked.
“Definitely.”
His eyes got soft and he smiled. “I love that, Rufus.”
“You do?”
He nodded, pulling me behind the screen and kissing me gently. “Love you,” he whispered.
“Love you, too.”
“We’ll head to the hotel after dinner.”
“Okay, but I want to change and put on a little makeup if that’s okay.”
“Why? You look gorgeous.”
“Flattery will get you everywhere, even if you’re lying.”
“I never lie, Rufus.”
I rolled my eyes. “Thank you for being sweet, but I’m not meeting your brother in leggings and a hoodie.”
“How about we head home, then we can eat at the restaurant in the hotel?”
“That’s great. I love that place.”
“Me too. Let’s head out.”
“I’ll just check in with my sisters first, okay?”
“Sure.” He kissed me quickly, then followed me to where Lyric and Melody were talking with Jay.
