“Indeed.”

“How are we going to get out of here?”

“Mia’s got a plan, so pack your bag and we’ll get out of here.”

I sighed. “I’ll be quick.”

“Okay. Meet me downstairs.”

Jaxon left me and I went about packing up my meager belongings.

Twenty minutes later, we were on an ATV heading through the back of the Dennis property toward the Quinn barn.

In the pouring rain.

By the time Jaxon pulled the ATV into the barn, we were both soaked. I climbed off the vehicle and removed my helmet, wiping my face and trying to keep from freezing.

“Jesus, now I feel less like Kim Possible and more like Rufus the naked mole rat.”

Jaxon pulled his helmet off and set it on the seat. “I don’t know anything about Kim Possible or mole rats, but I’d sure love to see you naked again, so let’s get you out of those wet clothes, huh?”

“Oh, now I see why you were so eager to get back here.”

He chuckled. “Busted.”

He grabbed my bag and followed me up the stairs, letting us inside the tiny apartment.

I rubbed my hands, blowing on them in an effort to get warm.

“Go take a shower,” Jaxon said. “I’ll get the fire started.”

I almost kissed him for his kindness, but I was way too cold, so I grabbed my bag and headed to the bathroom. It was small, but it looked like it had been updated recently, and the water pressure was awesome, so I lingered.

“You ever coming out?” Jaxon called.

I’d apparently lingered a little too long.

“I haven’t decided yet,” I retorted, but turned off the water anyway.

I dried off and pulled on some clean clothes, then headed out to the living room where Jaxon had a roaring fire happening in the wood stove in the corner. “Oh lordy, that’s nice.”

Jaxon grinned from his place at the small kitchen island. “Yeah. Wine?”

“Oh, yes, please. Wait. Where did you get wine?”

“Mia loaded us up with a few things. She’s heading to the store to stock her parents’ back up. We have enough food for dinner tonight and breakfast. We can head to Pixie’s tomorrow for more provisions.”

“Pixie’s?”

“Local grocer.” He handed me a glass of wine. “I figured it’ll be safer than heading to Freddies the next town over.”

“The second they figure out it’s not Melody, they’ll be gone. We can probably go wherever we want.”

“Let’s hope,” he said. “We’re gonna need to do something with your phone, Harmony. Your sister tracked you and I don’t like that.”

I sighed. “I turned it off, but I get it.”
