Brock chuckled. “I’ll let you go.”
“Thanks. We’ll talk tomorrow.”
“Sounds good.”
Brock hung up and I answered my brother’s call. “Hey.”
“Hey, little brother, how’s Mom?”
“Behaving herself for the moment.”
“Shit. Seriously?”
“So far,” I confirmed.
“Jesus, you really are the mom whisperer.”
I chuckled. “Maybe so.”
“Did Brock fill you in?”
“Yeah. I’m supposed to stay put for a bit, huh?”
“Yeah. You okay with that? I can send Miller down if need be.”
There was no way in hell I was letting Nolan Miller anywhere near Harmony. “Nah, it’s all good. She’s happy at the Dennis’, and I figure I’ll take one for the team in regards to Mom.”
Matt laughed. “You always were the selfless one.”
“Sure, we can go with that.”
“Is she a nightmare?”
“Who?” I asked. “Harmony?”
“Yeah. I can’t imagine two like Melody in the world, but if she’s even half the pain in the ass, then I’m sorry.”
I chuckled. “She’s nothing like Melody, actually. Totally down to earth.”
“Well, if that changes and you’re done with it all, just say the word. I’ll send Miller.”
No way in hell. “Okay, brother, I appreciate it.”
“Talk to you later.”
My brother hung up and I headed into the house, my phone buzzing just as I removed my jacket. It was Harmony and I couldn’t stop a smile. “Miss me already?”
“I need you to come back,” she whispered frantically, and my blood froze.
“You okay?” I asked as I rushed back to the truck.
“Someone’s here,” she whispered. “And it’s not Patrick or Wendy. They’re moving around the house.”
“Where are you?”
“I’m hiding in the closet.”
“I’m on my way, don’t hang up.”
