I go to open my mouth, but Jax keeps talking.

“He can stay here for now, until you have a handle on your business, and what place he’ll have in it. I think training is best right now.”

I look to Michael. “How do you feel about that?”

“I’m good with it. I had to promise not to eat anyone, though, which sucks.” Michael shrugs. “It’s cool, though. I don’t need human meat; I just prefer it.”

Chuckling, I pat his shoulder. “I have some ideas on where to put you. But you do need the proper training.”

“Thanks, Phoenyxx. You totally saved my ass, and I owe you. You're a cool chick. I like you.”

“Good to hear. I like you, too. I'll be in touch soon, okay?”

Michael salutes me, then he and Jax turn to leave.

“Jax?” I call. “Thanks for everything. You're awesome.”

He shoots me a thumbs up, making me laugh. I wonder if Cynthia will be able to get him. I hope so; they could use each other.

It's only a few before my husbands join me.

“All set?” I ask them.

Yeses go around, so we all go to get our car; to go home.

Home. What a fucking concept.

Chapter 42

Phoenyxx

I'm exhaustedfrom unpacking and arranging things to my liking. I love that my guys let me take the reins with everything.

Looking around, I hum in satisfaction. With our stuff added, it looks comfy and homey.

I sink down onto the butter-soft leather sofa, and groan in relief.

A soft knock comes from the front door, and I sit up in alarm. Who could that possibly be?

It takes me a moment to remind myself that there aren't any significant threats anymore. No need for a panic attack.

Synn flies down the stairs, and over to the front door. Looking through the peep hole, he blows out a breath. “It’s your parents.”

“Oh? Wow, okay. Well, let them in, husband.” I smile.

He opens the door, and my parents walk through, smiles on their faces. I get bear-hugged by them both, making me giggle.

“Sorry to intrude, Carina,” my mom says.

“We wanted to speak with you about what it means to be an heir,” my dad adds.

Synn frowns. “Now?”

“I think it’s prudent she is well-informed, and how to proceed from here. Plus, we wanted to see our daughter’s new house.” My dad nods warmly to Synn.

“Okay. I'll make myself scarce. Plenty to still do. Good to see you both.” Synn kisses me on the head before scooting back upstairs.

“Sit down,” I tell my parents. “Can I get you anything?”
