“Now, Ashley, that baby isn’t Jayson’s and you know he isn’t. Jayson has every right to go after you for what you did to him. Keep your shit up and I will help him file every fucking thing he needs to file against you. You have a beautiful little boy whocan’t help who his mother is, so your focus should be on him and not trying to find someone to control. You know where the front door is. Move it. And if I hear that baby is being mistreated in any way, I will make sure he’s taken away from you, and you lose your rights.”
Lana didn’t wait for either to respond as she walked out of the living room and went back into the bedroom and climbed into the bed. Shortly after she’d done that, Jayson was following in her footsteps.
“What the hell was that?”
CHAPTER
FORTY-ONE
Lana didn’t move at Jayson’s question. She just laid there, staring at the ceiling.
“Talk to me,” Jayson pleaded with her.
“I’m okay, Jayson. I’m not angry or upset with you. I’m angry at her and it took everything I had in me to not deck her then and there. If she hadn’t had the baby with her, I probably would have in all honesty. I know that baby isn’t yours. He doesn’t have the same birthmark as the twins do. The same birthmark you have.”
“Birthmark?”
“You have a birthmark on your lower back, near your upper buttocks. Both the twins have the same birthmark on them as you do,” Lana explained to him.
“Wait, the birthmark on my lower back? It’s the same one that my father has. My brother has the same birthmark, too,” Jayson said quietly as his mind started whirling.
“Both of the twins have the exact same birthmark. That’s how I knew that poor baby wasn’t yours. I feel sorry for whomever the biological father is.”
“You purposely gave the baby a bath so you could see if he had the birthmark,” Jayson figured out what she had done.
“Yes. Now, let’s get some sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a pain in the ass day with trying to figure out where Angelo is so we can arrest him and his cronies. We’re missing something in this whole case, and I don’t like it.”
Lana rolled over, away from Jayson, forcing her breath to slow down so that she could fall asleep. She finally relaxed and Jayson rolled over and pulled her into him, wrapping his arms around her and kissed the side of her head.
The next morning found them rushing around to get the kids ready to take them to Jayson’s parents’ house while they finished getting ready for work. Despite Jayson waking her up early and reaffirming their feelings for each other, they were running late.
Fucker needed to be slow and tell her repeatedly how much he loved her and loved how she felt and blah, blah, blah. All she wanted was for him to fuck the shit out of her.
No matter how much she tried to get him to do just that, he would just chuckle and continue to go slow. She hoped the asshole got a wedgy up his ass that he couldn’t get out while they were out working the field today.
After dropping the kids off at his parents’ house, they had made it to work with two minutes to spare. Putting their things down on the conference table in the room that was provided to them for the purpose of their investigation, the team all started pulling out their notebooks and folders they had created for this case.
“You look a little irritated today. Didn’t the big man put out this morning?” Hollywood asked as she looked between Jayson and Lana.
“Yes, I put out this morning. She’s just mad I didn’t pound her ass, instead I was nice and gentle.” Jayson smirked over at her.
Lana couldn’t resist flipping him the middle finger at his smugness. “Fucktard over here had a nice visit last night that isstill messing with my head a little bit. I’m trying to figure out her motive, other than to piss me off and cause issues between Jayson and I.”
“A visit?” Ryan asked, looking between them in confusion.
“Ashley stopped by after we’d gone to bed. She claimed that I’m the sperm donor of the kid she spit out a couple of months ago,” Jayson explained to his brother.
“Wait, she was pregnant?” Ryan asked, his confusion getting deeper.
Lana watched as Jayson thought back in his mind and then looked at her wide-eyed. When she read his expression, she knew why it kept nagging at her about the way Ashley handled everything.
“The baby isn’t hers,” Lana concluded. “It’s time we get Peter back in here. If it’s true that the baby isn’t Ashley’s, then we need to get that baby in here and find out whose it is.”
Lana watched as Jayson and Ryan left the room to make it happen to get Peter into the interrogation room for more answers. While she knew they needed to talk to Peter more, she questioned whether they could really trust him with his answers.
She never thought that Peter would do the things that he had allowed to happen to Jayson. She always thought that Peter would have his back, just like Jayson would have had his back.
It honestly threw her for a loop when she’d heard the hostility in his voice at how he blamed Jayson for following his dreams and Peter feeling like he was stuck here. Why hadn’t he gone to college and then tried for the agencies that he wanted to then?
