He didn’t care that it took her father’s death to bring her back to him, or the fact that she kept his children from him. He was just grateful that she was here now, and he was going to do everything in his power to make sure she and their kids remain that way.

Jayson helped Lana climb into bed and crawled in behind her. He loved the fact that she didn’t argue with what side of the bed they would sleep on and trusted him to keep her safe.

For him, that was a huge thing. He knew Lana could take care of herself, she’d already proven that to him time and time again.

It was the fact that while she knew she could handle herself, she trusted him to keep her safe just as much as she trusted herself to do it. She felt safe enough to allow her guard down and let someone else take the reins.

He was almost asleep when there was a loud, insistent knock on his front door. Groaning, Jayson got up and went to his dresser to grab a pair of sweats to put on over his boxers.

When he moved toward the living room, he saw that Lana’s side of the bed was empty and she wasn’t in the bedroom or the bathroom. He knew she’d gone to answer the front door.

“What the fuck do you want, Ashley? We’re trying to sleep.”

What the fuck was Ashley doing at his front door? He couldn’t stand the bitch, and now she was on his doorstep.

“This is between me and Jayson. Not you, bitch!”

“I’d watch how you speak to my wife, Ashley. There is no reason for you to be on our fucking porch this late at night. Now, what the fuck do you want?”

“It’s time to stop fucking around and meet your son.”

CHAPTER

FORTY

Lana startled slightly at the venom in Ashley’s voice when she made the statement. When she said that it was time for Jayson to meet his son, she looked at the carrier that was in her arm and saw the small child sleeping soundly in his carrier.

“I don’t know whose kid that is, but I know damn well that’s not my son. I’ve already metmyson Ashley, and it’s not that kid in the carrier on your arm. You and I have never slept together. I know for a fact, even when you drugged me, I didn’t get off. In fact, I’ve seen the video where you grew angry when I pushed you off, telling you that you weren’t my wife. You had to use Viagra to even get me fucking hard. I’m not accepting your word until a DNA test is done by someone that I trust that you don’t have by the balls to dupe the tests.”

“Let me see the baby,” Lana found herself saying as she stepped back, opening the door wider.

She knew Jayson was going to be angry, but she had a reason for doing what she was doing. Something that Jayson never thought of.

She knew Ashley had always wanted Jayson for herself. He was the only one to tell her no, so she considered him a challenge to bend to her will.

She would explain everything to Jayson once she proved her point and sent Ashley packing. She knew Ashley was going to cause problems for Jayson no matter what unless she nipped it in the bud here and now.

“Bitch, you’re not going to touch my son.”

“Ashley, that’s probably the only truth you’ve told in your life. Now, unless you have an issue with your nose, your son has shit his pants and from the smell, it’s probably run up his back. He needs to get cleaned up and probably a new onesie, which I hope like hell you have in your diaper bag. Second, I’m Jayson’s wife. If he’s going to have access to this child that you’re claiming is his, that includes me, because I’m not leaving him just because you want to be a cunt. It’s not that poor child’s fault he has you for a mother. Now, knock your shit off and focus on the child instead of trying to ruin someone’s life who has made it plain and clear he has wanted nothing to do with you.”

When Ashley huffed at the directness of Lana’s statement, she just rolled her eyes and walked away from the door, leaving her and Jayson standing in the doorway watching her in shock. Lana went to the kitchen and started running water in the sink, putting the stopper into the sink and making a small bath for the baby.

When Ashley laid the carrier on the couch and looked around the house, she knew then and there Jayson was telling her the truth, Ashley had never been in the house before which meant the times that Ashley did her stunts they were done at Peter’s house. Which meant that Peter was telling the truth about them always taking Jayson to his place so Ashley could control the narrative.

She knew Jayson would have put two and two together and literally prevented her from ever having access to him again if he’d woken up at her place. She had to give Ashley points for having some brains.

Rolling her eyes at the fact the twit was too busy gawking at Jayson’s living room, she walked into the room, pushed the two out of the way and grabbed the sleeping baby. When he fussed at the movement, she murmured to him softly, settling him down and she laid him on the towel that she’d placed on the counter to remove his soiled clothing and diaper.

“Jayson, grab me some powder, ointment, a fresh diaper, and an outfit out of his diaper bag. If she doesn’t have the powder or ointment, there should be some in the kids’ bathroom. Dani has some that she uses after her bath.”

Leaving Jayson to do what she asked, she continued to ignore Ashley as she focused on giving the now awake baby a bath. She talked to the baby as she bathed him and got him clean.

When Jayson showed up with the items asked for from Ashley’s diaper bag, she dried the baby off and got him diapered and dressed without so much as a word to either person just watching her. She couldn’t help the pride when the baby just kept staring at her with a smile.

The poor child didn’t ask for the mother that he received, so she had no problems being kind to the young child. Despite whom his mother was, the small infant was actually really cute.

Once the baby was cleaned up and dressed, she held him for a few minutes as she continued to coo and talk to him. When he drooped back to sleep, she wrapped him in his blanket, snug and tight, and placed him back in his carrier.
