“No, Mrs. Kenwood. It’s perfectly fine. I’m glad they are getting a chance to get to know you and your husband. It’ll make it easier for them when they come to visit you guys.”
“Visit?”
Lana looked over into an angry Jayson’s eyes. They had grown hard and cold.
Why the fuck was he angry at her? He’s the one who fucked her while he had a pregnant chick coming home to him.
“Yes. As in them visiting you and your parents from Texas.” Lana straightened her back, staring him down.
She couldn’t look anywhere else but his eyes. The man looked good as hell in his uniform.
“Lana, you never got to meet our oldest son, Ryan. He was overseas when you and your father moved here to NC. This is Jayme, Ryan’s wife. Ryan just got out of the military a few years ago and moved back home. He’s with Hellburn Falls PD,” Mrs. Kenwood forged on through the awkward silence.
“Yes, we met earlier. She was coming out of Jay’s place when I stopped by to take him dinner for work tonight,” the woman admitted to the room.
“Snuck out more like it,” Jayson said loud enough for her to hear.
Sister-in-law? Well fuck a duck on a pogo stick.
“Nice to see you again, Jayme.” Lana remembered her manners. “Has everyone eaten yet? I made lasagna.”
“Yay! My favorite,” Dani and Jay yelled in excitement.
“I could definitely eat.” Jayme blushed, patting her round belly.
“How far along are you?” Sunny asked, the awkwardness rising again.
“Seven months. I’m ready for this little tyrant to get evicted. He’s been hell on my bladder and my back.”
“Savor it while you can. The sleepless nights will be upon you before you know it.” Lana smiled at the woman.
“Sons, what time do you need to be at work?” Mr. Kenwood looked at both of his sons.
“I have time for a family dinner before briefing. Jay?”
“I’m too young to work.”
CHAPTER
SIXTEEN
Everyone burst into laughter at young Jay’s comment. Lana’s heart melted slightly as Jayson pulled his son in for a hug.
“Guess Uncle Ryan has to come up with a new name to call me since everyone calls you Jay, too.”
“I can come up with a couple easily, but they aren’t appropriate for children or our parents’ ears,” Ryan Kenwood quipped, stepping away from his mother’s swat.
“Can’t he just call you daddy like Dani and I do?”
Lana, Cullen, Rocky, and Sunny nearly choked on their laughter at the innocent question. Ah, the innocence of children.
“No, son. Jayson is yours and Dani’s daddy. Uncle Ryan is his brother. Therefore, it would be inappropriate for him to call your daddy the same name. The only person he can call daddy is your grandpa Kenwood.”
“Can you call him daddy? Our dad I mean,” Jay asked, looking up at her with curiosity.
“Your mom can call me whatever she likes, son.” Jayson smirked at her as he winked.
“On that note, dinner is ready. Find a seat or we can use the tables in the backyard.”
