“Liar,” Kendrick fired back. “That color green ain’t never suited you.”
Trey nodded to where Cassidy stood at the side of the dance floor. “Who are they?”
“How would I know?” Kendrick’s powerful shoulders shrugged, doing his best not to reveal his amusement or that he was aware who the men were. Before he could say more, he got distracted whenhishottie signaled for another beer.
“You’re the gossip,” Trey called, loud enough to be heard over the music.
“Might be so,”—Kendrick grabbed another IPA and opened it before the guy could ask, offering a filthy smile that hinted to all the naughty things he wanted to do to the dude—“but where would be the fun in telling you when I can watch you sweat over Cassidy?”
Kendrick caught Trey lifting his middle finger when he took the cash off the guy, giving him a flirty wink, holding his gaze for a second before going to the cash register before continuing, “After Friday, isn’t it time you fucking admit there’s something real goin’ on between you two?”
Trey didn’t so much as look at Kendrick, not bothering with a reply. He was used to it. Kendrick continued to move up and down the bar serving customers, except his attention didn’t strayfar from the guy at the bar who was watching Monty dance. He was worth watching with the hip action he had going, a slow, sensual grind that kept in time to the beat of the music.
Movement caught Kendrick’s attention when the hottie slid off his bar stool. Was he leaving?
Kendrick frowned when the hottie stopped next to a stunningly beautiful guy perched on a bar stool at the other end of the bar, near Trey.
He had moved before he could think better of it. Although the other guy was dressed similarly in cowboy clothes, he looked to have stepped out of a top fashion magazine.
Kendrick swallowed back a growl of possessiveness he had no right feeling, catching the name, “Jupiter Starling,” aimed at Trey.
Then Kendrick’s hottie snapped, “Jup, there you are! Why the hell didn’t you wait for me?”
Damnit to hell and back.
Kendrick wasn’t blind to his own appeal, but he looked nothing like the stunner with the most enticing smile Kendrick had ever seen. Except Jupiter ignored the angry demand and took Trey’s offered hand.
What was his issue? How fucking dare he treat the other guy like that!
Tension thickened the air and Kendrick grew wary for reasons he didn’t want to reflect too hard on. Cassidy’s appearance at the bar made the tension increase.
Kendrick wasn’t sure if he was going to have to crack some heads together when Jupiter replied, “Because, Rue, you were fussing about having a cold shower and I was in need of astiffdrink!” Jupiter’s strange green eyes were on Cassidy when he emphasized the ‘stiff’.
The man was playing with fire, something Kendrick realized Jupiter was aware of. Kendrick couldn’t figure out the dynamicwhen…Ruejust rolled his eyes at Jupiter’s behavior. If they were dating, surely Rue would become pissed at the obvious flirting with Trey—Cassidy? Kendrick wasn’t sure who the fuck Jupiter was interested in.
Kendrick didn’t have time to dwell on that when Cassidy made a noise in the back of his throat that sounded decidedly threatening. “If you can let go for a moment,” he snapped, his aquamarine eyes swirling with an unusual temper, “I’ll have a glass of water. I’m parched.”
Jupiter chuckled and dropped Trey’s hand, his gaze shifting between them. “It seems you are. Care to join me for a glass of wine?”
Kendrick eyed his friend with some amusement when he could read exactly what was on his mind, even though the ‘fuck no’ didn’t leave his lips as he went to get the drinks.
Rue stomped to his seat, only to scowl at the group of omegas when, not more than a few minutes later, Jupiter and Cassidy joined them on the dance floor.
This would not end well. Kendrick knew it with how much testosterone was floating about—his included. Jupiter was asking for a punch to the throat!
The thought had barely taken root when he heard Trey growl low and mean, causing the hairs on Kendrick’s arms to rise. Instinctively, he prepared to stop Trey from ripping Jupiter’s head from his body, stepping towards his friend. Only his lips flapped open at seeing Trey vault the bar in a move any world-class gymnast would be proud of. Kendrick was both impressed and concerned he was going to have to clean up blood before the night was through.
When Trey marched Cassidy off the dance floor and out of the bar, towards the stairs leading to Trey’s apartment, he cursed. “Well, fuck me! How am I supposed to manage the bar alone?”
“Do you need a hand?”
Kendrick’s attention shifted to Rue, his pulse picking up speed at the unexpected offer.
Why had he offered?
Was this to do with making Jupiter jealous?
Kendrick immediately shut off that line of questioning and nodded before he could think better of it.
