“No. He’s not-“
“It’s the only way, Allister. You know it. We are so close to bringing this case to a close. Just get in, spend an hour, talk crap with others, then get out. Easy.”
“No.” I pushed closer into Sir’s leg.
“We can’t do this without you. Find a way, without him, if need be. But you have to get in.”
“Why the fuck does it have to be me?”
“Why the fuck did you take this job?” April countered back. At least she was keeping her cool.
“Fine.” Sir spat. “When?”
“Tonight.”
Sir huffed, not pleased.
“Is there anything that I need to know before going in?”
“You’ll have to record and video again. Try to get every person on it that you can. The more, the better. The rest, you know the drill.” There was a long pause, and I assumed Sir was thinking things over. “Collin was nice enough to get a few details of theplace you’re going, so we know the inside well enough. Three exits, which will most likely be guarded.”
“Do you plan to use SWAT?”
“We need to, but I must know if our main target will be there.” There was more that was left unsaid, but Sir hummed, knowing things that went over my head. “Collin will hack into the cameras there and relay anything important to me.”
The two talked some more as I did everything I could to keep the panic at bay.
The one good thing about being with Sir was that I wasn’t passed around from one man to the next. I hadn’t been tied up and used over and over. I didn’t have to worry about bleeding from places that didn’t like to heal well. I didn’t have to worry about enemas before being forced to serve.
I wasn’t sure what Sir did, but whatever it was did sound like he was a good guy. I had to pretend. At least, that’s what it was. It wasn’t like I could do much about it anyways if it turned out that Sir was a cold-blooded killer.
But even then, if Sir was just that, he treated me better than anyone ever had before. The other boys didn’t count.
“Come on. Up.” At the command, I stood, keeping my eyes down on the floor. But that only lasted so long before Sir lifted my chin. Whatever he saw made his shoulders sag in defeat. “I hate to say it, but April is right. I’m going to need your help tonight.”
I nodded. We both knew I’d do whatever he wanted.
“There’s going to be rules. No one is allowed to touch you. You are mine, boy.” His voice turned possessive. “You will not talk to anyone but me. Even then, it’ll be very little. Yes and no answers. If, at any time, you are done with being where we have to go, you are to pinch my leg or arm.”
“Okay.” I squinted at him. “I’ll be good, Sir.”
“I know, pet. I know you will be the best you can be for me.” He pressed a kiss to my head before looking at me like I was…well, I didn’t know what to think about that look.
It was soft, tender, like I mattered to him, which was crazy.
“Come on. I need another nap before we venture out and get this shitshow over with.”
***
The headlights didn’t do much to light up the road as Sir drove us down old dirt roads and out of town.
For all I knew, Sir could be taking me somewhere to bury my body. It wasn’t like I knew the way to get back to anyone since I didn’t travel from a house of any kind all that often.
“Relax, Dakota.” Sir’s soft voice helped to keep me calm. I wasn’t going to let the two pills he gave me before we left the house be the reason my body wasn’t so strung out. Sir had said I needed to stay calm so I didn’t freak out, which meant I had to take some sort of drug. One I was slightly familiar with, but I didn’t tell him that.
Sir seemed like he was the one that needed the pills. He had done a lot of grumbling and huffingas he stalked through the house, waiting for the time to leave. I had stayed out of his way, not wanting to upset him more.
Whatever was going on, he was on edge, and I didn’t like it. Nothing felt like it was the right thing to do.
