I got a head nod in greeting before he turned to pull out milk.

“Sleep well?”

A shrug.

Not getting much out of him, and not wanting to burn the food, I gave the bacon my full attention again. I figured in time Enzo would tell me whatever was on his mind.

“Scarlett will be by in about an hour,” I said over my shoulder.

No response.

The fridge shut quietly, then just as silently, Enzo got plates and set the table.

Moments later, Emery came out of the bathroom, sleep marks still on his face. Once he had fallen asleep using me as a pillow, he hadn’t moved more than an inch.

He gave out a grunt, taking a seat at the table, still half asleep.

There wasn’t much talk between the three of us as I plated the bacon and toast. Nor during the meal itself.

When I began to clean up the dishes, Enzo finally talked. His voice was low enough that I was sure I wasn’t meant to hear what he said.

“Why did you go to him last night?”

“You stole the bed.”

“You’re welcome to join my bed, too, Enzo. There’s plenty of room.” I hoped I said the words as off-handedly as possible. “Just sleep. Nothing more.”

“Ryker doesn’t steal the blankets.”

“I didn’t.”

“Did too.”

“Boys?” I called, sensing that the arguing could last forever. I lifted a brow, daring them to continue.

“Wake me up next time,” Enzo grumbled.

“I tried. You grunted at me. So, I went to Ryker’s bed. He shares better.”

Saved by the doorbell. Thankfully, they both stopped the little spat as I dried my hands off on the towel before going to answer it.

No wonder I didn’t have kids of my own.

“Good morning, Scarlett.” I opened the door, letting her in.

“Morning.” She took a look around, spotting Enzo and Emery in the kitchen, lips firmly shut and not looking at one another. Then, her questioning gaze came back to me.

“A small bed-stealing situation.” I lifted a shoulder and raised my voice a tad so they could hear. “I’ll go out and get another blanket so they don’t have to fight over just one tonight.”

Scarlett just grinned while walking farther into the house. “At least it’s only a blanket issue, which can be fixed. Right, you two?”

“Yes,” Enzo muttered.

“If you have this under control, I’m going to get a shower in, then head to the store.”

“I’ve got it. Go do whatever you need, Ryker.”
