I didn’t want to think that far ahead. Couldn’t we just...be? Just for a moment?

“Ryker isn't going to want us hanging around here forever, you know?”

“He said we were welcome for however long we needed or wanted.” That wasn’t something I’d forget. That was what kept me from having to think about figuring my crap out. “I don’t want to go.”

The emotion in Enzo’s eyes made my heart sink to my stomach. Just because he may be right, it didn’t mean I was willing to see it yet. Or ever.

“I like Ryker.”

“Baby,” Enzo sighed, moving his hand to trail his fingers down my hairline. “It’s just something to think about, okay? That’s all.”

Slowly, his hand traced part of my face as if he were trying to capture it to memory. So many times, we’d done just that. There was always the fear that one of us wouldn’t wake up, or we’d be given away to another nameless man, never to return.

“I never want to make you upset again,” Enzo whispered. “But I'm sure I will.”

We didn’t always agree.

“I love you so much, Emery.” His lips pressed against mine, soft at first. Tentatively, I melted against him as my lips responded.

Butterflies filled my stomach as our noses rubbed together. This kiss was filled with love and hope and promises.

It was everything we couldn’t say.

Enzo’s arm wrapped around my back, keeping me in place as he scooted closer.

“I love you.” I said the words between sweet kisses, soaking up the moment.

Ryker

Blurry, I squinted a single eye open as none other than Emery made himself comfortable. He used my chest as his pillow, as if he belonged there from the start.

“Shouldn’t you be with Enzo?” My voice was raspy with sleep. It was way too early to be awake, even though I was pretty sure I’d only fallen asleep maybe an hour ago.

“He took over the bed when I got up to pee.” Emery’s voice was quiet, but he snuggled closer. “He doesn't move over well. And,” a pause, “he took my blanket.”

A quiet laugh shook my body.

“I forgot that he’s a bed hog.”

“Good thing my bed is big enough.”

“It’s still okay, right?”

“Absolutely.” I wrapped my arms around him the best I could, holding him tight. “I don’t want to come between you and Enzo, though.”

If two people ever needed a happy ending, it was them. They deserved the world and more.

The idea of getting them a bigger bed graced my thoughts, but then I dismissed it. I wasn’t even sure how long they’d stay here.

“I’m glad he’s here with me.” Emery’s voice was even softer. “Thank you for letting him stay.”

I felt eyes watching me before I turned around from the pan of bacon. I had a feeling about who it was, and I wasn’t sure how to respond. It all depended on how fiery the glare shooting my way was.

I had laid in bed for as long as I could, letting Emery sleep. When the clock had hit seven, I couldn’t stay any longer. My bladder had been screaming at me.

After a few more seconds, I turned to face Enzo. He stood by the fridge, a look of defeat on his face. That, I wasn’t expecting.

“Morning.”
