“Keep her safe,” Peyton said, pushing me towards Dominic, who kept me from falling flat on my face, before shutting the door.
“You okay?” he asked after making sure I was okay to stand on my own.
“Bathroom?” I asked, feeling my stomach twist in knots.
Without a word, Dominic steered me to it, where I fell before his toilet and prayed to the white goddess to make it stop.
Once nothing more would come out, I collapsed on my butt, panting with tears in my eyes.
“What’s wrong with me?” I cried.
“No one’s told you?” he asked, flushing the toilet and handing me a warm washcloth to wipe my face off. When I didn’t grab the rag, he gently wiped did it for me before tossing it over to a corner with a pile of dirty laundry.
I shook my head. He didn’t say anything as he stood up and got me a cup of water. After a small sip, he took it back, setting it out of the way.
He sighed, rubbing his face with both hands. When his eyes met mine again, he gave me a sad smile. I could see the misery and uncertainty swimming in them. “You’re pregnant.”
“No,” I said, hoping it wasn’t true. I couldn’t be. I always made sure to take the stupid birth control pills. I never missed one. Not until that dreaded weekend. “Fuck.”
“Scarlett?”
“Tell me, please. I can’t be.”
“I’m so sorry.” He truly meant it, too.
A loud knock on the door caused me to yelp out. Dominic put his finger to his lips, telling me to be quiet. He closed the door most of the way behind him before I heard him walk across his room. There were muffled words exchanged before the door slammed closed. Moments later, it was pushed open slowly and Zevon edged into the bathroom.
I was too weak, trapped in my own mind, to even cower away from him.
“Hey, ragazza.”
“She’s fine,” Dominic sighed. “Mostly.”
“She’s crying, you dick!”
“Stop it,” I said, raising my eyes to meet Zevon’s. “Please.” Even my voice was weak.
“I’m to stay here with you two until the coast is clear,” he said instead, walking back out.
“What’s going on?” I’d take anything to make my thoughts not go where I didn’t want them to right now. I pushed myself up to stand, only for my legs to almost collapse underneath me.
“I got you,” Dominic said, picking me up and carrying me to his bed. I wrapped my arms around his neck and leaned my head on his shoulder. Before I wanted to admit I liked being in his arms, he sat me down on the bed and pulled the blanket around me.
“What’s wrong?” Zevon asked, his eyes bouncing back and forth between us.
“Did you know I…I’m pregnant?”
“What?” Zevon said. “How the fuck did that happen?”
“Alan happened,” I shivered. “What’s going on out there?”
“Someone tripped the security system,” Zevon answered, taking a seat on one side of me. “All around the property, and even in the house, there are cameras and alarms that will alert Ace and a few guards if anyone is trying to get in who shouldn’t be anywhere near here. It’s nothing to worry about. Probably just a rabbit.”
“Zevon,” Dominic hissed.
“What?” At the look they passed between one another, he went on. “Fine, not a rabbit. A rat. Caesar and Peyton will handle it.”
“You’re safe with us, Scarlett,” Dominic said, taking a seat on the bed behind me. He propped himself up against the headboard and laid his gun on the bed beside him, right within his reach.
