Chapter 40
Avidya
Sitting down at the table, not sure entirely how to act, I held my hands in my lap, hiding the shaking. Or at least attempting to. I tried to tell myself that there was no reason to be nervous. It was only people that I knew and got along well with. Nothing could happen here.
My heart was speeding too fast, my breath was labored as my nerves consumed me.
Why had I agreed to this again? What made me think that this whole double date thing would be okay? How could it possibly be good for me?
It was too late to back out now, but as my vision began to dim, a voice broke through the fog.
“Breathe, Avidya,” Zachariah’s voice whispered in my ear. “I’ve got you.”
After a few moments, my breathing slowed but I was still nervous. I looked at my husband pleadingly.
“What’s got you so nervous?” he asked, placing one of his hands in my hair, scratching my scalp. “Is it the place?”
We were in the club, hisclub. That wasn’t the problem though. We were here before the doors were to open for business. The lights were only partially on and no one but the four us would be here besides one waiter and the cook that was in the back making food. The black chairs and tables were set up nearly the exact way that I had first seen while here.
“What if they aren’t as I know them to be?” I asked quietly, my fear coming out with my words.
Really, it shouldn’t have even been a concern.
“You aren’t afraid of what they will be doing, but that they won’t act like you know them to be?” he asked, doing his best to hide his amusement.
I nodded my head with wide eyes.
“You don’t have to worry about that. They are still just Travis and Kenna. Yes, Travis will be more submissive than normal, but he won’t be that much different than you are used to seeing from him,” Zachariah said as the door was pulled open, revealing a streak of sunlight into the club.
“Promise?” I asked out, my voice like a breath of air.
“Promise,” he stated. “If you get uncomfortable, please just tell me your safe word, and I’ll put a stop to whatever is bugging you.”
“Okay,” I breathed out. That I could handle. I think.
“Hello,” Kenna said, drawing my attention her way. She gave me an encouraging smile before turning to Zachariah. “Everything okay?”
“It will be,” Zachariah said, standing up. “Please, sit.”
Travis held the chair out for Kenna before taking his own seat while Zach took the chair next to me. He laid a hand on my shoulders, pulling me into him. The action slightly calmed me.Just slightly.
“You sure everything’s okay?” Kenna asked, looking more at me than my husband.
“She’s a bit nervous,” Zachariah answered for me. It was a good thing as I didn’t think I’d be able to say anything.
“Why’s that?” Travis spoke up. “We all know each other.”
“I’m not going to command Travis to not be who he is. That’s why I like him so much,” Kenna said softly to me and shooting my brother a wink. “Is that what you’re worried about?”
I nodded my head, dropping my eyes to the table top. Was I really that easy to read?
“Kenna and I talked,” Travis spoke. “We both agreed that we wouldn’t be in our normal roles that we are when together. I can read you, sis, and you have to see with your own eyes that I won’t do anything I don’t want to do. I am my own man, but I love to please my Mistress when I can. I hope that you can see that. There is no better way for you to really see it but first hand.”
“I’ll try,” I whispered out, slowly raising my eyes.
“That’s all I can ask for,” Kenna said. “You do fine with each of us on your own. Now is no different. We are just all in one room. Nothing else has changed.”
I nodded, knowing she was right.
