I could never deny him.
Once I was sideways on his lap , my head resting on his shoulder, I let out a content sigh.
“Sorry I wasn’t there when you woke,” he mumbled to me.
I shrugged in response.
“I kinda have some news that you need to hear,” Travis said, running a hand through his hair. “And not good, I’m afraid.”
“Alright. I’m listening,” I said, sitting up straight and giving my brother my attention.
“I told Zach first,” he fidgeted. “But Racheal was found dead this morning in her room.”
“What?” I asked. The words didn’t make sense to me. “How?”
“Suicide,” Travis said. “Her doc said she had been stashing her drugs and overdosed. He thinks it had something to do with not wanting to meet you. The stress of it all was too much.”
“Oh,” I said. I wasn’t upset exactly. Surprised, for sure. I didn’t know the woman that gave birth to me more than just what I had heard. Yes, it would have been nice to meet her, but I knew she was depressed. It really was only a matter of time before she took her life once and for all.
“She wrote a letter to you, which I’ll go pick up, along with any other things that she had,” Travis went on. “I know we were to meet in two days, but she had planned it for a while, it seems.”
“Do you think it really was suicide?” I asked.
“Yes,” Travis said sadly. “She was depressed, and she’s been fighting a good fight. She couldn’t deal anymore. I had thought she was doing better the last time I saw her. But something pushed her over the edge finally. Or she was just a good actor, even her doctor didn’t see it coming like this.”
“Okay,” I sighed out. “What now?”
“Nothing, really,” Travis shrugged. “I’ll get her belongings, and you can have them. Her body was donated to science, per her request years ago. She has no money, no properties, to her name. There isn’t anything you can do.”
“Okay,” I said. Was I supposed to feel sad about it? I didn’t. She was just a stranger to me. I didn’t think even meeting her would have changed anything, either.
I knew that she wouldn’t be able to give out any more information than she already had so far. I truly didn’t think she had anything else that really needed to be said.
“Anyhow,” Zachariah said, bringing me out of my thoughts. “Kenna called me earlier, too. She’d like for the four of us to get together sometime this weekend.”
“Do you think that’d be a good idea?” I asked, looking at my husband. I was filled with nerves at the thought of something like that.
What would it be like to have two Doms and two subs in the same room?
“I think it’d be great. Many couples do double dates. It would be good for everyone,” Zachariah said. His look he gave me told me that he knew what I was feeling. I couldn’t help it though. I wasn’t a huge people person on a good day.
“It’ll be fun,” Travis said with a smile. “You get to see more of what the ‘rents get to see, but nothing you can’t handle. Kenna won’t be too…what’s the word I’m looking for?”
“Aggressive?” Zachariah laughed. “No, she won’t be too overwhelming with knowing how new you are to all of this. But it’d be really good for you, Avidya, to see how another couple acts toward one another. Of course, each relationship is different. Kenna is very capable of showing you what it right in a way that makes sense to you.”
“Alright,” I sighed out, giving in. Might as well. I liked Kenna. What I was afraid of was that together, Kenna and Travis would be different people. I wasn’t sure if I’d like what I would no doubt be seeing. “When?”
“Tomorrow?” Travis asked, almost afraid of my answer.
“Okay,” I agreed. “I’ll let you two figure out the rest. As long as everyone is clothed, got it?”
“Of course,” Travis laughed. “Although I don’t care about that aspect of it all.”
“I don’t need to know that,” I laughed. “Let me pretend that we are just normal people, okay.”
“But we aren’t, Kitten,” Zachariah laughed. “We are so much more than normal.”
Shaking my head, I felt his chest rumble in laughter.
What had I just agreed to?
