I’m so happy to hear that, I do a little happy dance. In typical Spencer fashion, I trip over my own feet and fall headfirst into Mr Contractor, which sends his clipboard straight into my face. He catches me by my upper arms, steading me.
“Ouch.”
“Oh, are you okay?” he asks, checking my face for any clipboard damage that may have occurred.
Slow movement by the front window catches my eye. When I turn my head, I see Finn walking by, his steps faltering when he sees me. I give a small wave. He has a look of confusion as he cocks his head sideways and continues on walking. Why did…? I turn and come face to face with my answer, Liam!
Oh my god!! No, no, no. Realizing what this must look like, I jump back like the man has leprosy.Well, Fuck Me.
CHAPTER18
Finn
My spirits arehigh after the night and morning I just had. After consuming way too many pancakes, I say goodbye to Spencer with a kiss that leaves both of us reeling and a promise to call him later. I walk in through the front door of Ink Me. There are quite a few people milling around. I knew that the schedule was full today, but I don’t think I understood what that meant to its fullest extent.
I shuffle my way through the people and say hi to Mira.
“Boss wants you in back!” she nods her head toward his office.
My heart speeds up. Worry creeps in. I have not had a chance to sit down with Jaxon and talk about Spencer. It’s not that I feel like I have to ask permission. We are grown adults. What is going on between me and Spencer is personal and private. But I feel like I should give him a heads up. He cares about Spencer, and I respect that.
I knock on his office door that is partially open, peeking my head in.
“Mira said you wanted to see me?”
“Hey Finn, have a seat!” Jaxon says.
I slide into the seat in front of him. He starts digging through his drawers. My nerves kick into high gear, my leg bouncing uncontrollably. I need to say something.
“It's… A… really busy out there today,” I say, pointing out the door.
Jaxon looks up, with a cheshire smile. “Today is going to be crazy!”
I laugh and Jaxon goes back to looking through his desk and mumbling curse words.
Okay, this is dumb. Just say something, Finn!
“Look, I have been meaning to talk to you about Spencer.”
His head pops up, and he smirks, leaning back in his chair. “So Spencer?” he says, then crosses his arms in front of his chest.
“Okay, look. Spencer and I are grown adults, and I’m not asking for your permission. But I respect you enough to know that you care deeply for Spencer. I really like him. He is smart and funny, sweet and kind. He is different, and every layer you peel back is more and more unique. It’s what makes him so great. I will try my hardest not to hurt him. But I need to see where this goes. For some reason he feels important to me.”
“You're right, you’re both grown adults and what you both do is none of my business. What I see are two people who deserve to know just how much they can be loved. If you find that in each other, even better. I will be here to support you both. But if you hurt him, I will have to kick your ass. It’s standard protocol.”
I laugh as he goes back to looking for something.
“Now, for the reason I asked you in here… If I can find the fucking thing!” Jaxon finally lifts up the piece of paper that is directly in front of him.
“Bingo!”
He grabs the set of keys that were lying underneath and hands them to me.
“Here are the keys to your new office! You will be in studio 2. You can set it up however you need to. Take a quick look around this morning and make a list of anything you’re missing. Then at lunch you can run and get a spare key made. We are going to be busy today, so we need all hands on deck. Mira has you set up for some bigger pieces today.”
Wait! What? “So you didn’t want to see me to talk about Spencer?”
“No, but I appreciate you letting me know. That took some guts.” Jaxon wiggles his eyebrows. “Have fun telling Dom!”
