“You damn straight.”
The pie and coffee went great together. I loved all of it and looked for seconds when I was done.
“Thank you for bringing me here. I’ll be coming back.”
“No problem. The man who owns the place is not here, but when I see him in the gym, I’ll let him know what you said.”
I only nodded. Today was special for me. Nash had made me fall deeper in love with him from the way he continued to care for me. He wanted to take care of me, and I allowed him to do that. He was a man who handled business, and I was grateful for him. He was everything I ever wanted in a man.
“Oh gosh!”I mumbled as I saw Patrick holding hands with his wife and child. I didn’t even know if I should let Nash know. If I did, I knew he wouldn’t have a problem hitting that man.
After a big breakfast Nash and I prepared together, we cleaned the kitchen. While we did that, we listened to a chapter or two of our Harry Potter book. I loved the way we bonded.
Since I was still out of work, we went back and forth from my house to his. Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time at his house. Even Pinks had moved in. I think she liked it there too.
I felt Nash’s eyes on me, but I wouldn’t look at him. “Are you good?” he asked.
I nodded. If I said nothing to him, I’d feel bad about it. Plus, I didn’t want to keep anything from him.
“Uhhh, yeah. I’m good.” I nervously laughed. “But umm, I see Patrick, even though I’m not trying to be messy.”
He laughed. “Yeah, I know you’re not. You’re just remembering what I told you. Where is he?” He looked around for him, and I gulped before pointing Patrick out. “That scrawny ass man had the nerve to yell in your face like that?”
I pressed my lips together to keep from laughing loudly. “You’re too much, but yes, he did.”
“He’s lucky... Nah, he needs to hear what I have to say. I won’t put my hands on him, but he needs to know to never try shit like that again.” Nash let go of my hand and proceeded to walk toward Patrick and his family. He and Patrick stepped away from Patrick’s family.
I watched to make sure nothing happened. Nash then pointed at me, causing Patrick to look over at me too. I gulped but continued to look on. They shook hands before Nash made his way back over to me.
He reached for my hand and kissed it.
“What did you say to him?”
He shrugged. “Just know he sent his apologies to you. Now let’s do our last-minute Christmas shopping.”
I laughed. “You mean you do your last-minute shopping? I’m done, remember?”
Even though it took me a while to get Nash something for Christmas, I figured it out.
He scoffed. “Yeah, just rub it in.”
I only smiled. He still had to get a gift for his sisters and mother. Nash had shared with me that shopping for them was difficult because they were hard to please. I could understand that because I knew it could be hard shopping for me too. I’d say in a minute I didn’t know what I wanted.
My cell phone rang in the middle of our stroll around the mall. I retrieved it from my purse to see who was calling. It wasa strange number, but it might be someone calling me back for a job, and I wouldn’t miss out on the opportunity.
“Hello?” I answered.
“Good afternoon. This is Charlena calling from Treat the Pets Vet Clinic. May I speak with Kenzlee Wilson?”
My heart thumped in my chest. This had to be someone calling for me to come in for an interview.Jesus, please let it be that.“This is she,” I confirmed.
“Hey! I’m calling to see if you can come in for an interview today?”
My eyes ballooned. “Today?”
“Yes, ma’am. If it’s possible.”
I nodded as if she could see me. “Yes. I can come in. Just give me the time.”
