‘Senior Amyra Bajaj is my sister.’

‘Senior Amyra Bajaj is my sister.’

“What the hell, Rey!” I send a glare at my overprotective best friend and focus back on the junior guy.

“I am so sorry for making you go through this. Please forgive hi–”

“It's okay, Senior. I should have known earlier that you were seeing your best friend. Thanks for rescuing me.” He leaves me stunned with his words, and then I find him leaping away from the spot.

“But…it's not what you are thinking–”

“Let it go, Ames. He got his lesson.” Reyansh drapes a hand around my shoulder, and I send an angry glance at him.

“What's your problem, Rey? Is admiring or liking someone a crime now?” I jiggle out of his embrace, and he raises an eyebrow in thinking.

“I don't think so, but I am sure these guys are not behind you for so-good intentions, and certainly not to actually love you, so take a chill pill and forget about it.” He pats my shoulder, and I gently swat him away.

“Stop baby-sitting me, Rey. You are not the one who decides for me.”

“I can, definitely. Remember, I have been the only man in your life since childhood.”

“What?” I freeze in place at his choice of words.

“Oh, Ames! I have never seen you with a guy till now besides me, and I am sure you are going to die single.” He lets out a dry, sarcastic chuckle.

Well, I can't deny the first part.

It's always been him.

“Stop, you idiot! You always stick around me, so how would you get yourself a girlfriend then?” I punch his arm, and he gives a sultry smirk that makes me nervous all of a sudden.

“You never know!” His low whisper in my ear arouses goosebumps all over my body, and I can't help but apprehend.

Is it another girl?

But I am damn sure I have never seen him with anyone except me, and considering how we stick around all the time.

Wait, can it be me?

Before I try to ask more about it, I see him walking back into the campus.

“Oh my God! They behave like a couple. They must be dating each other.”

I hear a girl’s squeal on my back, and a shy smile appears on my lips.

“Don’t know about that, but I bet he loves her for real.”

I listen to another rumble, and I can feel my cheeks instantly warming up.

Gosh, I will be the happiest if that happens to be true.

“I agree, considering how he shoos away every man that approaches her in the name of love.”

I hear another giggle and I realize how it's a fact!

I remember the first time I received a proposal from a classmate, Reyansh nearly got into a fight, warning him in no uncertain terms never to approach me again. And it didn’t stop there. Every time someone tried to court me, he interfered; his only aim was to ruin it and drive them away—just as he did now.

Rumors and whispers followed us everywhere. The whole University was almost convinced we were dating because of the closeness we shared and the way he hovered protectively around me.
