Theeveningeventwasin full swing, and I found myself feeling awkward as I tried to mingle with the other pack members. Their well-meaning welcomes and congratulations felt overwhelming, making me acutely aware of my outsider status, but I knew I had to make an effort to fit in with my new pack. As I stood by the edge of the dance floor, sipping a drink and trying to blend into the shadows, Liam approached me, his dark brown hair cascading to his neck, framing his ruggedly handsome face. I could feel my body tense up just being near him; he was the Alpha heir after all, and it was impossible to escape the imposing aura that surrounded him.

"Erica, would you like to dance?" he asked, his brown eyes meeting mine with an intensity that sent a shiver down my spine. My instinct was to refuse, but the last thing I wanted was to disrespect the Alpha heir. So, I reluctantly agreed, setting down my drink and letting him lead me onto the dance floor.

As we danced, our bodies moved in sync, and I couldn't help but feel the sexual tension that simmered between us. Liam's strong arms guided me effortlessly through the intricate steps, and I found myself struggling to breathe under the weight of our unspoken desires. My heart raced, and I couldn't deny the primal attraction I felt towards him, even though my mind screamed for me to resist. When the song finally ended, and we were both panting slightly from the exertion, Alpha Declan approached us with another man in tow. This man was classically handsome, with dark blond hair, blue eyes, and a well-built physique beneath his tailored suit. Liam's face lit up at the sight of him, and it was clear they shared a close bond.

"Erica," Alpha Declan said, drawing my attention back to him. "I'd like you to meet my nephew Alpha Ethan Anderson of the Rose Moon pack, just outside of London."

"Nice to meet you, Erica," Ethan said with a warm smile that instantly put me at ease. Even though he was an Alpha, his friendly demeanour and obvious affection for Liam made it difficult to maintain my usual wariness.

"Likewise," I replied, trying to hide my relief at the arrival of someone who could momentarily break the tension between Liam and me.

The laughter and clinking of glasses filled the air, creating a dizzying cacophony that only served to heighten my sense of overwhelm. I tried to focus on the conversation with Ethan, but my thoughts kept drifting back to the charged dance with Liam.

"Erica, are you enjoying the party?" Ethan asked with genuine concern, his blue eyes searching mine for an answer.

"Um, yes," I lied, forcing a smile. "It's just a lot to take in." Before he could respond, Luna Fallon, Alpha Declan's mate, appeared at our side, her authoritative presence cutting through the noise.

"Declan, it's time we leave the party," she said, her tone firm yet gentle. "Parties are a young person's game, after all." Declan nodded in agreement, and then turned to Liam.

"It's time, son," he said, and I could see the understanding pass between them, Liam would leave early to give me some space. My chest tightened with a mix of gratitude and disappointment.

"Of course, Father," Liam replied, his eyes still locked on mine. The intensity in his gaze made my heart race, and I struggled to maintain my composure.

"Good night, Erica," Declan said, offering me a nod of respect before he and Luna Fallon began their ascent up the grand staircase towards the Alpha apartments.

"Good night, Alpha Declan, Luna Fallon," I replied, watching as they disappeared from view. Liam lingered behind, hesitating for a moment, his dark eyes filled with longing. And then, with one last lingering glance, he followed his parents upstairs.

I stood there, staring after him, acutely aware of the emptiness that settled around me now that he was gone. While I was grateful for the reprieve from the overwhelming tension, I couldn't deny how much his absence affected me.

"Are you okay?" Ethan's voice pulled me back to the present.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I muttered, forcing my thoughts away from Liam. "Just... a lot happened today." Ethan nodded sympathetically, his eyes kind.

"It's never easy joining a new pack, but give it time. You'll find your place here."

"Thanks, Alpha Ethan," I said with a small, genuine smile.

The lively music and laughter of the pack members filled the air as I stood there, feeling a mixture of relief and loneliness. It was then that Verity and Gen appeared before me, their arms linked together, their faces alight with excitement.

"Come on, Erica! You can't just stand here all night," Verity urged, her white-blonde hair swinging as she tugged at my arm.

"Let's dance!" Gen chimed in, her usual reserved demeanour replaced by an infectious enthusiasm. Before I could protest, they whisked me onto the dance floor, and suddenly, I found myself caught up in the whirlwind of movement and energy. We danced, laughed, and shared stories, our friendship blossoming amidst the chaos of the evening.

As the night wore on, though, I began to feel the effects of having drank more than I'd eaten. Excusing myself from my friends, I wandered in search of sustenance, only to bump into Damon, quite literally.

"Whoa, easy there," he said, steadying me with strong hands around my waist. His dark eyes sparkled with amusement as he looked down at me.

"You look like you could use something to eat."

"Is it that obvious?" I asked, trying to hide my embarrassment behind a sarcastic smile.

"Maybe just a little," Damon teased, guiding me towards the kitchen, where an impressive buffet had been set up. He expertly filled a plate with an array of delicious-looking food, and I couldn't help but feel grateful for his presence.

"Come on, let's find somewhere quiet to sit," he suggested, leading me out to a secluded seating area under the stars. The cold night air felt refreshing against my skin as we settled down, and I eagerly dug into the feast before me.

As I ate, Damon spoke about Liam, his words sincere and earnest.

"I hope you give him a chance, Erica. He's a good guy, just… under a lot of stress."
