"It's time for the ceremony, Erica. Come with me." I followed him through a dimly lit corridor to a back room already occupied by Alpha Declan, his Luna and wife Fallon, and Liam. My heart skipped a beat as I caught Liam's gaze – those dark brown eyes held an intensity that sent shivers down my spine.
"Ah, Erica, allow me to introduce you to my lovely Luna, Fallon," Alpha Declan said with a warm smile as he gestured toward the elegant woman beside him. Her black hair cascaded around her shoulders like a cloak, and her vibrant amber eyes sparkled with excitement.
"Erica, it's a pleasure to finally meet you. I've heard so much about you," Fallon gushed, clasping my hands in hers. The warmth of her touch was reassuring, but there was something cryptic in her eyes that made me uneasy.
"You're going to be an incredible addition to our pack."
"Thank you, Luna. That means a lot to me," I replied, trying to sound more confident than I felt. Just then, Kaitlyn burst into the room, her cheeks flushed and her chest heaving as if she'd run a marathon. Alpha Declan's expression soured, but Kaitlyn seemed unfazed by his disapproval. She rushed over to me, beaming.
"Erica! I'm so glad I made it in time!"
"Better late than never, right?" I joked, attempting to deflect the tension in the room.
"Indeed," Alpha Declan interjected, his voice stern yet measured. "Now, Erica, let me explain the ceremony to you. I'll be guiding you through what you have to say, so don't worry. We'll get through this together."
"Thank you, Alpha," I murmured, my stomach twisting into knots at the thought of standing on stage before the entire pack. As we prepared to go on stage, Liam approached me, his eyes never leaving mine.
"Erica, you look beautiful tonight," he said softly, his compliment catching me off guard.
"Thanks," I stammered, feeling heat rise to my cheeks, but my thoughts were a whirlwind - was this just another tactic to control me? Or was there something genuine in his words? Conflicting emotions warred within me, each fighting for dominance as I struggled to maintain my composure.
"Alright, everyone, let's get this show on the road," Alpha Declan announced, ushering us toward the stage.
Alpha Declan and his Luna, Fallon, stepped onto the stage first, their presence commanding the attention of everyone gathered. Gregg followed behind them, his stride confident as he took his position at the Alpha's side. The crowd hushed as Declan began to speak.
"Tonight, we come together as a pack, as a family," he proclaimed, his voice echoing throughout the hall. "Loyalty is what binds us, trust is what unites us, and strength is what drives us forward." My heart raced as I watched from the wings, feeling more like an outsider than ever before. Liam and Kaitlyn stood beside me, their expressions conveying a mix of anticipation and concern.
"Please welcome Erica Hallows to the stage," Alpha Declan announced, gesturing for me to join him. Taking a deep breath to steady myself, I stepped into the blinding lights, feeling as if I were walking into the lion's den. My eyes scanned the crowd, noting the curious gazes that seemed to bore into my soul. As I reached the centre of the stage, Liam and Kaitlyn followed suit, providing a semblance of support in this overwhelming moment.
"Erica Hallows, you stand here before Alpha Declan Anderson of the Silver Stone pack, who bears witness today. What say you?" Gregg called out, his voice firm and unwavering. Swallowing hard, I struggled to find my own voice amidst the turmoil within me.
"I... I renounce my former allegiance to the Moon Key pack and seek acceptance into the Silver Stone pack," I managed to choke out. An icy sensation shot through my veins as the bond to my old pack snapped, leaving me breathless with loss and sorrow.
"Let it be known," declared Alpha Declan, his eyes locked on mine. He raised his arm, calling for the ceremonial knife. Gregg dutifully retrieved it and handed it to the Alpha.
"Erica Hallows, do you vow to be loyal to the Silver Stone pack, placing the safety and concerns of the pack above all others?" Alpha Declan asked me, his voice reverberating throughout the hall. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart.
"I do," I replied, my voice stronger than I felt.
"Then let us proceed," he said solemnly. He grasped the ceremonial knife and sliced his palm, blood welling up and glinting in the dim light.
"Erica Hallows, I offer you sanctuary and acceptance in the Silver Stone pack. Do you submit to the blood bond?" My hands trembled as I reached for the knife. It's cold handle pressed against my fingertips, a stark contrast to the warmth of the blood that stained its blade. With a mixture of fear and determination, I pressed the steel into my own palm and winced at the pain.
"I, Erica Hallows, submit to the blood bond of the Silver Stone pack." Alpha Declan's hand, heavy with authority and command, covered mine, and our blood mingled together. A sudden surge of power raced through me, electrifying and unexpected. The connection forged between us was palpable, like a live wire jolting every nerve. I glanced at the Alpha, and his eyes widened in surprise, mirroring my own shock.
"Erica Hallows," he announced, his voice steady despite the unique sensation, "as the bond forms from blood, I officially recognise and accept you as a member of the Silver Stone pack." He turned to face the audience, still gripping my hand firmly.
"I announce Erica Hallows, formerly of the Moon Key pack, now bound by blood to the Silver Stone pack." The room erupted in cheers and applause, but their excitement was muted by the lingering sense of loss within me. My old life, my former pack, had vanished like a wisp of smoke, leaving me adrift and uncertain.
"Erica Hallows," Alpha Declan said softly, his eyes meeting mine with sincerity, "I officially welcome you to the Silver Stone pack." A new bond began to form within me, tendrils of connection and belonging weaving together as I officially joined the pack. The sensation was both exhilarating and terrifying, a testament to the weight of my decision.
As the Alpha released my hand, I attempted to make my way offstage, but my legs felt weak, and I stumbled slightly. Just then, Fallon stepped forward and enveloped me in a warm embrace. Her whispered words, full of warmth and understanding, brushed against my ear,
"Welcome home."
