In the third, he pushed aside a watch and a few sticky notes before grabbing a pad of paper and a pen. After scribbling the information down, he logged off and headed back outside.

He’d just stepped onto the deck when he almost collided with Tilly.

“Kayden!” She almost sounded out of breath. And damn, but that incited memories of other times she’d been out of breath recently.

“Hey, Till.”

She wet her lips, and immediately, his gaze lowered to those luscious lips. “You shouldn’t do that.”

“Do what?” she almost whispered.

He lowered his mouth to her ear. “Wet your lips like that while we’re at work…it makes me want to taste them.”

She made a small choking sound. “Kayden!” Her breaths became choppy before adding, “But I wouldn’t mind, you know…if you tasted my lips at work.”

His cock hardened. “That’s a dangerous thing to say to me, honey.” His lips grazed her neck, and she shuddered.

“Maybe I like living on the edge.”

Fuck it. He lifted his head and crushed his lips to hers. The kiss was warm and intimate and familiar. So much more fucking familiar than it should have been considering how long they’d been seeing each other.

She leaned into him, a soft hum slipping from her lips. And when her mouth opened, he dove in, caressing her tongue with his.

Jesus, she was sweet. And those soft little moans that were escaping from her throat made him want to drag her back to the office, bend her over the desk, and take her.

He was tempted to do just that when a throat cleared behind him. They both froze before turning to see Hendrix and Theo looking at him in shock…and Jake beside them, appearing less than impressed.

CHAPTER 18

“Are you going to do it?”

Tilly cringed at Harper’s question. They stood at a tall table while Harper took a break from working behind the bar to have a drink. This morning had been another perfect day of waking in Kayden’s arms, having out-of-this-world shower sex…and another morning of not talking about what they were doing or where the relationship was heading.

Was it just sex? Or were they in a relationship? And if theywerein a relationship, was it long term?

A week ago, when the guys in Kayden’s SAR team had caught them kissing, it had been Hendrix who’d asked what they were doing, and Kayden had told them it was none of their business. But he’d kissed her so openly…that surely meant something, right?

Tilly dropped her head into her hands. “I don’t know.”

“What don’t you know?”

“If I can do it.” If she could ask a simple question without fear rendering her completely silent.

Argh.

Harper wrapped her fingers around Tilly’s wrists and tugged her hands away. “You can do it.”

“I’m scared.” Understatement of the freaking century.

“What are you scared about?”

“That he’ll tell me we’re a fling. That he’ll look at me like I’ve just asked him for a ring. Or even that he’ll run. The few relationships I’ve been in, I’ve never cared if a guy walked away, but with Kayden, I do.”

Harper tilted her head. “Tilly…the way he looks at you reminds me of how Cody looks at me.”

Tilly laughed. “That is not true. You are all Cody sees. The center of his world. He told you he started falling in love with you the first time he saw you. The first time Kayden saw me was when I returned to this town, and trust me when I say, love was thelastthing on his mind.”

“Everyone’s story has a different beginning,” Harper said quietly. “But love is love.”
