“Seriously?” Katya cocked an eye at him. “Suit yourself.”
Matias watched as she stood up and dropped the towel. With her chin held high, she stalked past him stark naked. She grabbed a pair of panties from the dresser against the wall and slipped them on. Her pert breasts bounced as she jerked open the closet door and pulled down a sundress.
Matias had ensured she had plenty of clothing at her disposal. He wanted to make her stay as comfortable as possible—even for a prisoner. She tugged the dress over her head and pushed past him, sitting on the bed again.
Matias adjusted his dick. It was painfully hard beneath his zipper after watching her little tantrum.
“What do you want to know?” Katya folded her arms across her chest, pressing her perfect tits up for display.
Matias growled, “Where in Vegas is your father?”
“He’s just outside of Vegas in a town about thirty minutes south of the strip.”
“Why does he want the lithium?”
“I don’t know. I knew nothing about it until I was sold to Jorge.”
“And how did your father and Jorge come to meet?”
“No clue. I was kept in a room most of the time when I was with him. The only time I was permitted out was for meals. Jorge demanded my presence at dinner. After we ate, he would take me back to my room and lock me in.”
“You were supposed to marry him, right?”
“Yes, but I refused, and the priest wouldn’t conduct the ceremony.”
“How did you get out of his house and come here?”
Katya wrung her hands together. “The night before I showed up here, he got angry with meafter dinner. He pushed me onto the bed and held me down. He said I was going to marry him in the morning or I wasn’t of any use to him. He slapped me hard, saying I was a means to an end. One of the servants stood by and watched. I remember…” Katya took a breath as she fought back tears. “He pressed me into the bed and said if I didn’t marry him, he would ruin me for any other man. When he left the room, I laid there crying. A few minutes passed by before my door opened. The female servant who watched him beat me, gave me my freedom. She’s probably dead right now.” Katya let the tears fall. Her sobs cutting at his heart strings.
Matias sat on the bed beside her and tugged her against him. “I won’t let him get away with what he’s done to you.”
“I don’t know why my father stole your lithium. He hated me. I wasn’t privy to his business.”
“Katya.” Matias tilted her head back so he could look her in the eyes. “Where is your mother? How can she let him do this to you?”
“She’s dead. My father had her killed.”
“What the fuck?”
“He caught her in bed with another man. That affair was her death sentence. Now, all Iam to him is a constant reminder of her betrayal.”
Matias held her as she cried against him. “I won’t let him hurt you, Katya.”
“You can’t promise me that. Your family will always come first, and I am directly tied to the one person who aims to hurt them.”
He closed his eyes and inhaled. “My family will come first, that’s true, but if you help us right this wrong, I’ll swear my protection to you. Do you trust me?”
Katya looked up into his eyes. She held his gaze as she studied the truth behind his words. Even though this man was the enemy, Katya couldn’t help but feel safe in his arms.
“Yes. I trust you.”
“Good.” Matias let go of her and stood. “As long as you’re here—Jorge won’t touch you.”
Matias walked to the door and paused before leaving. “No one will hurt you again, Katya, not even your father.”
Katya watched as he slammed the door shut. He didn’t lock her in this time, making her heart race with confusion. How did a man that stood against everything her father believed, make her feel protected? Katya laid back on the bed and stared at the ceiling.
If she was being honest with herself, he made her feel more than protected—and that scared the shit out of her.
