“You’ll see,” my sister told her mysteriously.

Suddenly, a shrill whistle split the warm summer air, and everyone froze, their heads whipping toward the sound.

“Everyone hush up and listen!” Alley yelled. “Jett and Patience have something to say!”

Within seconds, everyone gravitated closer to us, including the kids. They all wore curious expressions, especially our son. I probably should have told him, but I knew he’d tell Autumn, and then the gossip phone tree would go into full swing—just like with the ladies—and everyone would know.

We wanted to surprise everyone, especially Gramps, so it was mum's the word until the party. I looked over at Jett, nodding my head for him to go ahead and do the honors. He entwined his fingers with mine and pulled me close to his side.

I turned to look at my husband, dreamy eyes in full effect, and listened as he told our family—because that’s what they all truly were—about our plans and our happy news.

“We excluded you the first time around when we got married, plus I robbed my wife of something special, and it didn’t sit well with me. So I asked her to marry me again, and she said yes.”

Everyone was hooting and hollering as Jett tried to yell over the noise, “And you’re all invited!”

More cheers went up as Jett placed his free hand on my stomach. As our friends’ gazes zeroed in on where his palm was placed, they fell silent. I looked over at Gramps as my husband finished his announcement.

“That’s not all, though.” My husband gave my tummy a little rub, then yelled, gleefully, “We’re having a baby!”

The pride in Jett’s voice, the sparkle of elation in Gramps’s eyes, and the way our son rushed us, throwing his arms around our legs in excitement, had me on cloud nine. People were hugging us, smacking Jett on the back, and congratulating us left and right.

I could hear Dusty shouting through the phone, and I flashed her a quick smile before Jett swept our son up into his free arm, and we focused on Griffin.

“Are you okay with having a baby brother or sister, Champ?” Jett asked him.

All smiles, he nodded with abundant enthusiasm. “Yes, I can’t wait.” Then a serious expression crossed his adorable face. “I’m gonna be the best big brother.”

“Of course you are, sweetie.” I leaned in and hugged my guys close.

Suddenly, Gramps was squeezing into the mix, claiming his spot in the group hug. When he pulled back, he said, “I always knew you two were going to get there one day, but I can’t believe I hadn’t figured out you were keeping a secret this last week.”

The wise old guy didn’t miss much, so I was shocked too.

While the party continued around us and everyone was talking, Jett shocked me when he said, “I have a surprise for you.”

What in the world?

“A surprise for me?”

My husband’s smile was so big and bright it gave the sun a run for its money. “Yup,” he answered smugly, proud of himself for sure.

When I looked at Gramps to ask if he knew about it, I didn’t even bother. He wore the same smug expression as his grandson, and it was obvious he wasn’t left in the dark about this surprise.

“I’m going to steal these two for a bit,” Jett told Gramps, who nodded.

As he began pulling me away from the group through the backyard area toward the field, people were yelling at us, asking where we were going, but he just kept moving. Gramps had several acres, but there was nothing out there but land, so I was completely confused.

“Where are you taking us?” I asked.

“Yeah, Daddy, where are we going?”

He gave us a simple, vague answer. “For a walk.”

My gaze scanned the area and the direction we were walking. I was as confused as ever.

“A walk? Where exactly are we walking to?”

“You’ll see,” he said smugly before flashing me his signature, dimpled smile that sent my tummy quivering with butterflies.
