Her gaze took in everything and she gasped. “What in the world? You did this for me?”

“I’d do anything for you, sweetheart. I thought we could use a date since the baby is due soon and we’ll be up to our elbows in poopy diapers plus be having many sleepless nights.”

With her free hand, she playfully swatted my chest and laughed.

She looked around at the set up. “Pax, this is breathtaking.”

At the edge of our yard with the perfect view of the river, the sounds of water trickling smoothly in a beautiful flow downstream, I laid out a soft, coral-colored blanket for us. Instead of sitting on the blanket since I knew my wife wasn’t getting down on the ground until after the baby was born, I’d placed two cushioned chairs and a table that held a big wooden picnic basket. Tiki torches were scattered around us, flickering in the dim evening night, along with a candle in the middle of the table, adding to the glow of the moment.

“I’m just sorry I can’t take you on the honeymoon you deserve, but I promise I will take you one day when it’s right,” I told her, feeling awful about not getting to take her somewhere. Well, not somewhere, I knew exactly where she wanted to go and I would get her there as soon as we could.

“We’ll get to the island of Capri where your parents honeymooned, baby. I swear.”

She released my hand and placed both of her palms on my cheeks, looking at me with her mystically-beautiful, green eyes that pulled me under their spell in a second. “I would love to go, you know that, but anywhere I am with you is my happy place.”

The woman slayed me and made me fall in love with her a little more every day. And yet, I wasn’t sure how that was even possible because I loved her more than ever imaginable already.

“Let's sit so I can feed you and our baby,” I said just as there was yelling from next door.

“Holy shit, brother, you really went all out!” my sister claimed as she walked through the gate separating our two yards.

A groan bubbled up from my chest, tumbling free.

“Nobody ever told me sisters were such a pain in the ass,” I mumbled.

Capri giggled. “You adore her and you know it,” she said, quietly.

I may have told her to hightail it out of the middle of our date if it weren’t for the fact she had my nephew with her and Capri melted to goo, gushing over the baby, wanting to hold him. She sat down in one of the chairs, with her arms outstretched, reaching for Dalton.

Gemma sat next to her and handed her son off to Capri who lovingly fussed over the little man and started talking in the cutest baby talk to him. Both my sister and I smiled as we watched how happy my wife was.

She was going to be the most amazing mother.

Within minutes, Bodie and the twins made their way through the fence and over to the group as well. Capri looked at me, giving me a secret smile knowing our date had just got crashed, but I figured we’d eventually get to it.

I was wrong.

It was time.

“Gemma, I think you need to take the baby,” Capri said in a strangled sound as she panted through her lips.

Concerned, I plucked my nephew out of my wife’s arms and handed him to my sister, before dropping to my knees in front of Capri.

“Baby, what’s wrong, are you okay?”

She was shaking her head back and forth. “I’m wet,” she huffed out.

My eyes widened. “That’s sexy as hell, darlin’, but I don’t think now is the time to be talking like that with little ears around.”

“Oh my God, you big buffoon,” my sister said. “She isn’t trying to turn you on, she is having a baby, you dumbass.”

I had medical training for fucks sakes but obviously when it came to my wife, my mind went in a whole other direction at the wordwet.

Capri laughedthinking her sister-in-law and my reaction were quite amusing. It was good to see since I was panicking a bit about her being in pain and also reeling with anticipation that our baby was trying to make their appearance.

In the next second, my wife held her stomach and a loud moan ripped from her sweet lips. I wanted to take away her pain.
