It had only been a month later when we’d said, “I do,” in our backyard by the river. We had lucked out with the weather. For it only being March, it was a semi-warm, spring day. The sun decided to peek through the few clouds in the sky and shine down on us as I married the man who owned my heart.
We had rented a big tent and as the night air swept in cooling things off, we enjoyed talking by the tall, outdoor heaters we’d bought. When I asked Bodie why not just rent them, he’d said that we were going to have many memorable nights together with the family in our yard so they would come in handy.
It was perfect.
I wore a semi-casual, white maxi dress. It may have not been extravagant but it was still stunning with a triangle bodice, spaghetti straps, and a flaring mermaid hem. But it was the scoop back that really got Bodie’s attention. When everyone had left that night, Summer and Gyth taking Peyton and Piper home with them, my husband covered every inch of skin on my exposed back with kisses before making his way to the rest of my body once he relieved me of my dress.
He left no spot untouched.
I’d decided it wouldn’t hurt to just toss it on from time to time so I could get a repeat of Bodie worshiping my entirety.
Not that he didn’t do that all the time anyway but teasing him a little first would be fun. Although, maybe the joke was on me because there had been something about the way he went about the removal process that had been painfully slow and had me begging for him to finish what he’d started before the dress ever dropped to the floor.
I shook my head to clear it so I could return to less toe-curling thoughts since I was at school and just think about the more innocent moments of that day.
Peyton and Piper had stood beside us in matching lavender dresses. Bodie wore black slacks, with a crisp white shirt, but no tie or jacket. We truly did want the ceremony to be casual. The ladies did amazing with some beautiful, but simple, decorations which of course included different purple tones.
And then there was the wedding cake Capri made for us. She wouldn’t let us pay her and said it was a gift, even though she’d gotten something else too. We had told her it didn’t have to be anything extravagant. She semi-listened to what we’d said. The cake was only two round tiers but the design was magnificent.
It of course was white and purple, with silver touches mixed in. Purple flowers climbed the cake and were scattered around it, with two joined together on top. Silver beads drooped around each of the white frosted tiers elegantly. Then she had a lace design around the bottom of each layer which also was done by hand.
While the look of it was stunning, the taste of it was out of this world.
The vows we shared were tear-jerking and beautiful, and the dancing was fun. Especially watching the kids together. We talked, laughed, and shared the memory with friends and family.
Bodie’s parents had even come. While I’d met them on FaceTime, at our wedding was the first time I’d seen them in person. They were wonderful people and having his mother fuss over me was something I was not used to but will never forget.
My brother was there and that meant the world to me. I was getting used to him being around and wanted him with us for many more special moments. I couldn’t help but wish a certain beautiful, dark-haired woman would keep his attention and be another reason for him to stick around.
And something very shocking but so sweet was, while Isabelle’s parents didn’t come—something I understood would have been difficult—they still sent a gift along with Bodie’s parents and wished us well. Their love for their son-in-law was transparent in the words they’d written on the card.
But I have to say, the funniest part of the whole event was Kace and Gyth’s tag-team approach to officiating the wedding. They’d done it before but it would never get old.
I will never forget that day for as long as I live.
Or our wedding night.
While the sex was intimate and also mind-blowing, my husband gave me a gift I hadn’t been expecting.
He threw out my birth control and told me he wanted a baby.
So it was April and I might not have been pregnant yet, I mean it had only been a month, but that didn’t mean we hadn’t tried every chance we got.
I couldn’t contain the look of lust that was probably on my face as I thought about my husband naked. That was probably why people were staring at me funny as I walked down the hall at school, from one class to the other.
Needing to talk to Bodie, I pulled out my phone—which was turned on silent because of class—to call him quickly. That’s when I saw a message from Jurnee that said Ruby was in labor and was taken to the hospital. Another text was from Bodie saying he knew one of the ladies was calling me about Ruby and he had about thirty more minutes to finish up with a client. He told me he’d be at the school to pick me up as soon as he was done.
I let out a frustrated sigh.
It wasn’t his fault he was busy, and I knew I should wait, but I didn’t want to miss anything or not be there with the other ladies. I also didn’t want to bug anyone as they were all probably trying to get to the hospital themselves. So I ordered an Uber and shot a quick text to Bodie to tell him to meet me at the hospital.
Knowing I could deal with my missed class later, I raced outside with a huge smile on my face to wait for my ride.
I was blissfully happy for not only myself but my friend too.
Everything was so perfect.
It seemed nothing could go wrong.
