Ruby put her phone on speaker and everyone got closer as her brother, Jett’s voice, came over the line. “How is everyone?” he asked.
My friend told him about Bodie’s proposal and they talked for a few minutes about what had been going on. After Ruby talked, Lyric took a moment, then their gramps who was always with us at gatherings, and then his sister Autumn chatted. It was the cutest thing.
When they were done and Jett’s next question came through the line you could almost hear a pin drop in the room. “Is Patience there?”
Tears were streaming down the young woman’s face.
“Yeah she’s here. I’m going to give the phone to her and let you two talk. We love you,” Ruby told him.
“Love you guys too,” Jett said.
Ruby handed the phone to Patience. She told her to go ahead and take it into the other room.
“Thank you,” Patience whispered as she left.
I was glad Jett got to call. It was no secret that his family missed him and Patience was somewhat lost without him around.
He hadn’t been home and I knew from Ruby that he was saving time so he could come after she had his niece or nephew. They chose not to find out the sex, so like Teal, we had another surprise coming just around the corner.
“Okay, peeps,” Alley said. “Let’s grab a drink and toast Bodie and Gemma.”
Everyone started toward the kitchen to grab a drink and the little kids gathered on the floor uncaring what we were doing. Ruby’s gramps had said he’d read them a story right before Jett called and they were looking forward to it.
The man had the touch when it came to the kids.
“I think I better try one of those delicious-looking cupcakes too,” Paxton said as we all stood around the kitchen island.
Capri sucked in a breath and blushed next to me.
She wasn’t unaffected, that was for sure.
As glasses were raised and Alley did her thing, giving the toast, Bodie leaned over and kissed my neck.
I wasn’t unaffected either and I couldn’t wait to get home.
