Or so we thought.

“Ruby, we meet again,” a deep voice sounded from behind us.

I knew that voice and chills ran down my spine. We all whirled around, Alley grabbing her famous bat that was next to her by the door as she did. But her weapon of choice was no match for the gun pointing at all of us.

It was him.

The man from the hospital who held a knife to my throat.

“I have orders to bring you to my boss.” His eyes were on me as he said it, but then he scanned the group and let out a sinister laugh. “However, I could probably please him even more if I take one of your friends too.”

Fear settled in my body.

“Maybe the pregnant one,” he said.

Brinley whimpered from beside me and her hands went over her stomach protectively. She wasn’t the only pregnant one since we’d just found out about Teal, but she wasn’t showing so the man didn’t know about her.

An evil laugh echoed through the room.

Where was Rowan?

“How did you turn off the security?” Alley asked, a bite to her tone.

I knew she had grit and could tell she was pissed but I didn’t want to provoke the man. I’d already had an encounter with him and knew he wouldn’t care who he hurt.

“That was easy. Now times up.” He waved the gun back and forth between each of us. “Ruby, you either come with me nicely or I shoot each one of your friends and then take you anyway.”

Oh my God. I wanted Lyric. But he wasn’t there, Rowan was caught up outside, something I was now sure that the man standing in front of us had to do with so he could get inside, and I couldn’t let my friends get hurt.

“Starting with the little momma there.” He pointed the gun at Brinley’s stomach and I immediately took a step forward.

“Ruby,” Alley said.

“Keep coming bitch or I start shooting.”

I looked over my shoulder at the women who had become so dear to me. We were still missing Gemma and I was thankful she wasn’t caught up in this too, but the rest of my girls were there and I had to protect them.

Then I looked into Alley's eyes. “Tell Lyric to find me.”

“Ruby, you can’t go,” she said.

I heard the click of the revolver being cocked and whipped my head back around to face the asshole..

“I’m coming,” I told him, “don’t shoot.”

As my feet started to shuffle forward slowly, I once again looked back toward the women, my eyes going back to Alley’s.

It was her home and she was one of the boldest women I knew. So I was leaving it up to her to get the message to Lyric.

“Please tell him I love him and I’ll wait for him.”

As Alley said my name again the bastard reached out and grabbed me, twisting so his arm was around my throat and my back was to him.

All the women gasped and Alley's eyes shot daggers at the guy. If I wasn’t scared shitless I might laugh at her.

“Don’t fucking hurt her,” Alley warned.

The gun came up over my shoulder and pointed straight at Alley’s head.
