It was one sentence, but we both knew the second we read it, that it was tied to whatever was going on with me.

Enjoy the moment because you never know when it will be the last.

Mabel must have thought he saw us and was just giving us some nice advice, but it was anything but nice.

“Where is the guy who paid for this?” Lyric asked Mabel. His voice came out a little harsher than it should have and her eyes opened in shock.

“I’m sorry, Mabel. I just really need to find this guy.”

“Well, he was at the edge of the counter, but after he paid, he left. Is everything okay?”

“What was he wearing and what did he look like?” Lyric asked, not answering her question.

“He was wearing a business suit, charcoal gray, with a white dress shirt. The man looked like he came from money and was quite striking.”

Lyric was up out of the booth. “Stay with each other.” Then he ran toward the door and outside where I saw him stop to scan the area.

“What in the world is going on?” Mabel asked. She looked down at me. “Oh dear, you’re shaking.”

Before I could say anything, Lyric was back. He sat down beside me and wrapped his arm around me. Then he told Mabel a short version of what was going on.

He wasn’t happy there were no cameras in or out of the diner. Not just because of me and what had happened, but because he wanted Mabel and her husband to have them. I knew that he was going to end up talking to the guys and having something put in, even if he had to help cover the bill.

I should know how gracious they were since I had yet to see a bill myself and Lyric said he had it covered. Something we had argued about, but I finally caved when he begged me to let him help. He’d also used the fact that he was living there now as an excuse.

“I didn’t realize. This is awful,” Mabel said.

It took some time to reassure her we’d be okay. But Lyric told her that if she saw the man again to call Lyric. I finally got to meet her husband before we left and then we headed out.

When we walked outside, I shivered. It wasn’t cold, it was a decent spring evening. But I couldn’t help but wonder if someone was watching us.

“Baby, come here.” Lyric pulled me into his side and held me close as we walked to his truck.

Once inside he turned to me. “I had planned to take you dancing since we didn’t get to do that at the modeling shoot dinner.”

He let that hang in the air for a second. I know he wanted to see how I feel.

“Do you mind if we just go home?”

He grabbed both my hands in his. “We can do whatever you want, but I don’t want you to let what happened ruin your evening.”

I wasn’t doing that at all.

“That’s not it. Sure it scared me, but to tell you the truth I haven’t been able to stop thinking about getting you into bed since we got here.”

A huge smile lit up his face. “Is that right?”

“We can dance another time. And find our song. But right now I want to be wrapped around you, making love.”

“How can I say no to that?”

“You can’t say no. Now take me home and show me how this date ends.”

And what an ending it was.
