And then showed her just how good waking up with me could be.

ChapterTwenty-Six

RUBY

I felt a bit guilty.

It had only been a week since Lyric and I attended my modeling shoot and Gyth and Summer stayed with my family, but we were going out again.

Lyric had it all planned and set up for Kace and Teal to come to the house for the evening. I hated that we had to watch over our shoulders all the time and rely on others to babysit my family when normally they’d be able to handle things on their own, even with Autumn.

But I couldn’t say no to the sexy man who insisted that it was date time.

In the three months since Lyric and I connected we hadn’t been on a date alone. If we had done anything it consisted of work stuff, friends, and family. We both were fine with that and it was one reason we fit so well together. However, he wanted to take me somewhere and I agreed.

Still in a towel, I brushed my teeth and then grabbed the blow dryer out of the drawer. Before turning it on I yelled out to Lyric who was in the bedroom getting dressed.

“Since you won’t tell me what we are doing, you’re going to have to at least tell me what I should wear.”

“Casual,” he said. “Wear anything that you want and that’s comfortable.”

Seriously, that was all he was going to give me?

We might already be running late—thanks to me—but I decided to turn the table and see how he reacted when he didn’t know what was coming his way.

I walked to the bathroom door, flung it open, and watched Lyric spin around in my direction. Grabbing the edge of the towel, I dropped it to the floor.

“What if what I want to wear isn’t appropriate? I might get arrested for public nudity.”

My body temperature rose as Lyric’s heated gaze took in my naked body and he prowled toward me like a panther zeroing in on his prey.

“If you think I’d let anyone else see you like this then you, sweetheart, are crazy. This,” he motioned up and down my body, “is for my eyes only.”

Goosebumps broke out all over my bare skin.

He grabbed my hips in his big hands and pulled me flush against him. I realized I’d been dumb to think that Lyric wouldn’t know exactly how to handle any situation at the drop of a hat.

He brought his lips mere inches from mine. “You might need another shower when I get through with you.” His mouth descended the remaining distance and he kissed the hell out of me before moving onto the rest of my body that quivered with need.

Yup, Lyric Knight knew just what to do and how to set me on fire.

“You brought me to Mabel’s?”

We pulled into the parking lot of the quaint diner that Lyric and I had gone to that first night, three months ago. On one hand, I knew that our relationship moved forward quickly, and on the other, it felt like we’d been together forever. I wasn’t going to question it when it felt so right.

“Since we hadn’t gotten a real date alone, I figured I would bring you back to where it all started.” Lyric turned off the truck and looked over at me. “And don’t forget it was Valentine’s that night. Cupid was looking out for us.”

“Cupid, huh?”

He tapped my nose playfully. “Well, it must have been because I was hit in the heart by something and fell madly in love with you.”

I’d been hit too. “I guess I owe Cupid then. I’m so in love with you.” My stomach chose that moment to growl.

“And hungry too it seems. Let’s get you some food.” Lyric started to get out of the car but paused when I spoke.

“Thanks for bringing me back here.”
