“Don’t make me kill you.”
Carson laughs, and then I get right to the point.
“A few things,” I say as the men settle around me. “First, I was hit last night, as you know.”
“Inside job,” Carson says. “I’ve watched the feed a few times. They knew to avoid the cameras.”
“Mendoza’s been sniffing around,” Mateo offers. “He’s pissed as fuck at you.”
“He should be. It could be him. If he’s in Vegas, he doesn’t leave alive. He’s been warned.”
“What about Rizzo?” Julian asks. “He called me pissed off because we haven’t found his precious daughter.”
Mateo smirks. “Same here.”
Carson’s eyes meet mine.
“Did he call you as well?” I ask Carson.
“No. He doesn’t have my fucking number.”
“Well, he called me,” I reply. “And he’s pissed. He sounds desperate, and I don’t know why. He’s not worried about her.”
“He’s a fucking asshole,” Julian supplies. “And I hear your bartender slipped away the other day for a while. Was she meeting with his men?”
I glare at him, and for a moment, I seriously consider pulling my weapon on him. Which is something I never thought I’d ever say. This man is mybrotherin every way that counts.
But I’ve had just about enough of this bullshit.
“Say shit like that again, and you and I are done.”
“It’s a fair question,” Julian says.
“No.”
Julian opens his mouth, but I slap my fist on the desk.
“No.”

LULU
“Hey, babe,” Scarlett says as she opens the door of the apartment she now shares with Luke. The day after the incident in the playroom, Luke had all of her things packed up and moved in here, and she’s been here ever since. It was actually really romantic, and I know that it made Scarlett feel good. “Come on in. I just have to put my hair up.”
She turns to walk to the island in the kitchen and grabs a hair tie off the counter.
“How are you feeling today? Especially after that workout.”
She glances at me and shrugs a shoulder. “Itchy. I’m healing, and the skin is a little itchy. But I’m not sore anymore. I’m mostly pissed off that that asshole had the goddamn nerve to hurt me like that. Luke told me that he and Rome took care of him, and I never thought I’d say this, butgood.”
“I agree with you,” I reply and pull her in for a hug. “Oh, crap, I forgot my phone up at the penthouse. I’ll just run up and grab it real quick. Do you want to meet in the lobby?”
“Sure. I have to use the bathroom again anyway. See you in ten?”
“Perf. Sorry about that.”
“Don’t even worry about it.”
