“What is this place?” Maverick asked as she looked out the front window.

I pulled in front of the building and unbuckled my seat belt. The valet person came to my side of the car, but I told him to give me a second. He walked away to take care of the car that pulled in behind us.

“This is where we will be staying for the next couple of days—just me and you. Let me grab our bags.” I popped the trunk and got out of the car. Maverick opened her door just as I put thebags on the curb. Another man came out and loaded our bags onto the luggage cart, even though we didn’t need it.

Maverick looked around, then back at me. “This looks fancy.” She smiled as she put her hand in mine.

We walked inside to the front desk. Everything in the lobby was gold, including the floor. Different big green plants and colorful flowers were scattered around. Above us was a large chandelier.

“Hello, welcome to the Chateau.” The bubbly woman, whose name tag read Shannon, at the desk greeted us.

“Hello, Shannon. We have a reservation under Blackwell.”

Maverick looked around the lobby in awe as Shannon typed on her computer.

“Ah, yes. Mr. and Mrs. Blackwell. I have you two here until Monday.”

Maverick’s head whipped around when we were addressed as a married couple. I wasn’t going to correct Shannon either. Maverick didn’t seem to be bothered by it since she only smiled.

Shannon did a few more things on her computer, then asked for my identification and credit card. She gave us information about the amenities and informed us that our bags had been taken to our room already. Shannon also told us that there was a concierge on call for us at all times in case we needed anything. I’d done my research and pretty much scheduled what I wanted us to do, but it was nice knowing that someone was available to help if we needed it.

Once we had two keys, we headed to the elevators.

“So how did you find this place?” Maverick asked as we stepped onto the elevator.

I used the key card to push the button to take us to the thirtieth floor. I liked this place because only guests with keys had access to the elevators. It was a pretty secluded area, but one could never be too sure about anyone lurking around.

“Did a little research. I wanted us to do something different, but also not have to worry about being around too many people.”

Maverick moved closer to me and stood on her tiptoes. I put my hands on her hips as she looked into my eyes. “Thank you.” She kissed me, and when she tried to step back, I pulled her to me again.

Tilting her head back, I wrapped my other hand around her waist and kissed her. My tongue explored the inside of her mouth as the elevator continued up to our floor. Maverick moaned into my mouth.

When the elevator stopped, I pulled back from the kiss. “You’re welcome, baby. I’ll always do what I can to make sure you are comfortable.”

The doors opened, and we stepped off the elevator. I led Maverick down the hall to our room.

I put the key card up to the door, but stepped to the side so Maverick could enter first.

“Oh. Onyx.” Maverick gasped as she stepped inside the room.

I entered behind her and made sure the door was closed and locked. Our bags were already placed near the door.

“This is beautiful.” Maverick walked further into the room.

The floor was covered in roses. On the table was a basket of oranges and her favorite dark chocolate candy. Next to it was a bottle of wine on ice and two wine glasses. There was also a charcuterie board filled with meats and cheeses.

In the middle of the bed were roses in the shape of a heart. Maverick picked up the card that was in the middle of it.

“Mr. and Mrs. Blackwell, huh?” She turned to me and smiled.

I shrugged and gave her a closed-mouth smile. “I didn’t tell them we were married, but I’m not opposed to making you Mrs. Blackwell.”

“I wouldn’t mind it,” she said as she put the card on the bedside table.

I already had an idea of how I wanted to propose to her; I just had to wait for the right time. It was only a matter of time before I did it.

“Remember you said that.” I winked. “How about we take a bath together, then we can eat something and relax?”
