She'd been working at Club Elysium now for almost two months, and so far her father still didn't know. She was actually surprised he hadn't brought Hallie to the club on any of the nights she worked.
Sinner was at the clubhouse, where he seemed to do all of his work, and she and Hallie were at the house enjoying the quiet while Kingsley slept.
She was feeling a bit like death warmed over, but she pushed through it to spend time with the woman who was more like a friend than a stepmother.
“Hey, Hallie.I have a question for you,” Sophia said once she'd gotten something to drink and had joined her in the living room.
“I might have an answer for you,” Hallie quipped.
“Hardy har har.Seriously.I've been working at Elysium for two months now.How is it that you and dad haven't come to the club even once?”
“Oh, we've been.Just on your nights off,” Hallie replied.“I got your schedule from Indi.Since you only work four nights a week, I just make sure you're off when we go.”
“That is so sneaky!”Sophia said with a laugh.“But why do you do that?”She was genuinely curious.
“Because him finding out that way would be a shock.I figure you'll tell him when you're ready.”
“Thanks, Hallie.I really appreciate that.I know I need to tell him.I'm just not ready yet.”
“Do it on your own time, girl,” Hallie told her.
Sophia glanced at the time before she finished the last of her strawberry lemonade.
“I have work tonight, so I need to go get ready.”
“Are you sure you're up to it?You're looking a little rough,” Hallie told her.
“I feel a little rough, but duty calls, right?I don't want to have to live here forever, after all.Besides, I've only been there for two months.I don't want to jeopardize my job.”
“You know Indi wouldn't do that. She would be fine with you calling out if you're sick.”
“I just don't want to risk it.”
She put her empty glass in the dishwasher and went to take a quick shower in hopes it would make her feel better before she dressed and headed out.
As she neared the club, she groaned when she saw there were no close places to park, and ended up having to park farther away than she liked.
By the time she reached the employee entrance, she felt like crap again, but sucked it up and went inside.
“Damn, girl, you don't look so good,” Rose said to her.
“At least I look the way I feel,” she grumbled.
“You need to go check in with Indi to make sure she's okay with you staying.”
Sophia sighed.“Yeah.I probably should.”
She hadn't had the chance to change yet, so she just left the dressing room and made her way out to the main area of the club where she found Indi leaning against the bar.
“Hey, Sophia. Are you feeling okay?”Indi asked her.
“Not really,” Sophia admitted.
“Then what are you doing here?”
“Uh, I have to work?”Sophia replied.
“Not sick, you don't.Go home.Get some rest,” Indi ordered.
