“Men.Such idiots,” Ivy said, having approached and overheard them.“Reminds me of Ripper, before he accepted the inevitable, as Indi would say.”
“What would I say and why?”Indi asked.
“That Ripper needed to accept the inevitable before we got together… and that Axel needs to as well.”
“Don't get me started on that man.I swear, he's the most frustrating of them all,” Indi commented.
“Total bonehead,” Rose put in.
“At least he apologized for the things he'd said to me my first night at the club,” Sophia told them.
“Wait. What did he say to you?”Ronnie asked, and the others who were unaware echoed her.
“He just tried to tell me what I could wear and where I could work.I set him straight.”When Amber opened her mouth to speak, Sophia quickly added, “Don't worry, I made him work for it when he apologized.”
“That's our girl,” Indi said with a laugh.“I noticed you two chatting for a bit a couple of weeks ago.”
“Yeah. That was when he apologized to me,” Sophia admitted.
“That's a step in the right direction,” Hallie commented.“Okay.That's enough of that. This is a party, let's have some fun!”
Sophia found herself being dragged to a cleared area and all of the ladies danced and laughed.
Axel
Everyone was at the clubhouse for another one of Indi's parties. The woman loved to throw the damn things. Not that it was a bad thing, but how she managed with running a business was beyond him.
The moment he'd arrived, one of the sweetbutts had sidled up to him but he'd gently rebuffed her, grabbed a drink, and found a spot to sit on one of the sofas.
He and Torch were bullshitting when Sophia entered. He glanced at her but quickly looked away because hedid notneed Torch catching on to his attraction. It was bad enough that Ripper had figured it out.
“You going on the club ride this weekend?”Torch asked him, pulling him from his thoughts.
“Hell yeah.I live for those,” he admitted.“So what's the story with Cherry?”Axel asked, turning the conversation around to put the focus on Torch.
“I'm helping her to work through her shit. She's not a bad person. She's just very lonely,” Torch replied.“And she just really wants to be loved.”
“You're falling for her, aren't you?”Axel pressed.
“”Maybe.I don't know.We'll see.”
The conversation turned back to the upcoming ride, but when laughter reached them, Axel looked to where the old ladies and Sophia were dancing.
“Ah, hell.Looks like I'm not the only one who is falling,” Torch said.
Axel groaned.“Not.A.Word,” he hissed.
Torch laughed.“Welcome to the club, brother. If you're so interested, what's stopping you?”
“What do you think?Sinner would probably fucking kill me,” he replied.
“Maybe.Maybe not.You won't know if you don't try,” Torch countered before he got up and walked to where Cherry was talking with some of the other sweetbutts.
Those words ran through his head for the rest of the night and followed him into slumber.
