Frankie
Sixmonthslater
It was June and tourist season was in full swing. Despite it being summer, it was only in the low sixties during the day, which was comfortable for the residents of Thorne Bay. The tourists, not so much. Some complained about the weather despite enjoying themselves.
For the past week now, Frankie had been dealing with a stomach bug. Shifters didn't get sick often, but it did happen.
"Darlin', I want to know right away what the doc has to say," Yaeger said as he was getting ready for work. She'd moved into the cabin with him a few weeks after her abduction.
"Yes, Sir," she replied. They'd taken on a bit of a D/s dynamic in the months they'd been together.
"Good girl. Now come here and give me a kiss so I can get out of here."
She sauntered over to him and kissed him. "Have a good day. I'll call as soon as I know something."
"See that you do." He swatted her on the ass and left.
Two hours later, she sat in her car in shock at what she'd learned from her appointment. She was supposed to call him, but she needed to see him. When she got herself under control, she headed out to the compound where she knew she'd find him waiting for a truckload to deliver.
"What are you doing here, darlin'?" Yaeger asked when he saw her. "I've been waiting for your call."
"I know, but I needed to see you," she replied. "Is there somewhere we can go to talk?" she asked.
"What's going on? You're scaring me, darlin’,” he said, leading her into the building where all the equipment was housed.
She took his hand in his and placed it on her stomach. “I’m sorry I’m scaring you, baby, I don't mean to. I'm not sick, not in the traditional sense. I'm pregnant. We're going to have a baby."
"A baby?" he asked. "Are you sure?"
"Positive."
He picked her up and spun her around. "We're having a baby!" Then he dropped to one knee. "I had this all planned out. I was going to take you to a romantic dinner then get on one knee, but this seems as perfect a time as any. Frankie Riggs, you have owned my heart from the moment I met you. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"
"This isn't just because I'm pregnant, is it?" she asked.
"Fuck no." He pulled a ring box from his pocket. "I've had this for weeks, planning the best time to pop the question." He opened the box and nestled inside was a two-carat diamond in a flower pattern on a white gold band.
"It's beautiful," she breathed.
"So will you?" he asked, hopefulness tinging his voice.
"Yes. A thousand times yes," she replied and held her hand out for the ring. A few happy tears slipped down her cheeks as he slid the ring on her finger.
There was applause and she blushed. She didn't realize they had an audience.
"About time you two made it official," Chase said from the shadows. As the resident vampire, he had a tunnel that led from his cabin to the shop and happened to be there checking on the equipment. "Congratulations on both counts," he added.
"Thanks, Chase," Frankie called out.
"Why don't you go home and relax, darlin', I'll bring dinner home with me," Yaeger told her, giving her a kiss.
"Okay, lover boy. I'll see you tonight," she replied. They kissed once more and she left.
Later that night, they were curled up together on the sofa watching movies.
"I still can't believe we're going to have a baby," Yaeger said, hugging her close.
"Neither can I, but here we are," she responded.
